I am not going to say I wasn't wildly excited by the starting XI tonight but my nagging worry was that we had opted for Plan B first.

There was no Plan A tonight.

Bobby was obviously going for an early kill and if we had indeed scored first and they were forced to come at us more then we might have won comfortably.

As it is we went in at half time with three of our four game changers already on the pitch.

With McGeady, Mirallas and Gerald already committed from the start, there was only Naisy to throw into the mix.

My own opinion is that Bobby got carried away with the whole "feel good" factor sweeping Mersey soccer at the moment and that team selection reflected a more ebullient than normal approach.

But there we go.

A tremendous match and as my arl granpappy used to say "if it wasn't for the bad days sure you wouldn't know what a good day felt like".

Looking forward to Sunday and the next adventure with Bobby's Blues.

;)

The Guardian mentioned that McCarthy had/has a muscle problem and wasn't risked from the start. Maybe that's why we changed things around? Agree it deprived us of the speedy-sub option. But then again, Naismith came on and scored so it wasn't all bad for Plan B...

we started with the side we needed to finish with roberto got it wrong, the team he put out made it look like we were a few goals behind from the start, when we got back to 2-1 we had nobody to bring on to make an impact, it would of suited duelofeu or mcgeedy/mirallas in the last 25/30 minutes

So we have to leave players on the bench so they can make an impact in the final 20mins?

Or we could start with a boss attacking side and blow Palace out the water in side 45mins

I have a feeling that was the plan

The team that was sent out at the beginning of the game was well and truly good enough to win.

It seems like McCarthy was injured, but many a time people have been asking do we really need him and Barry both playing in games against teams much lower down than us. Maybe we do to give a solid platform to our attackers.
