Bob Crow has died

That would set a ridiculous precedent, we'd have about 5 minutes silence before every match if we started picking random people to remember.
I agree. Football shouldn't be used as a vehicle for private grief. I'm just saying if they are going to have them then make it for people of note rather than any privileged Tom, D1ck, or Harry.

I liked him, he even admitted he was a communist socialist at heart. He represented and fought for the rights for his members.

RIP, we might not see the likes of him in the future.

yup bit of both

He was a trade union leader. But a very straight talking one. Very principled man, so much so, that those who disagreed with him, like me, still respected his adherence to his principles. Probably one of the least corruptable political figures in UK politics.

He was "controversial" apparently. What a scabby arsed way to describe a dead man who devoted his life to improving his membership's living standards. You'd think he was a mass murderer.

The craven British media at its inglorious best today. A horrible phone-hacking, paedophile ring protecting shower of bastards trying to take the moral ground on Bob Crow's legacy. You couldn't make that up.

To be fair, he was many things, and 'controversial' was one of them. Probably not the best way to describe him, but it could certainly have been worse.

Controversial is often misused these days by journalists with limited vocabularies (I'm not sure what it is these guys actually have other than an ability to follow instructions regardless of how undignified it makes them look).

There was no controversy about Bob Crow. Everybody knew what he stood for and if they didn't he would happily tell them. He was perhaps contradictory and contrary but that would mean employees of the Daily Mail would have to learn the meaning of two new words .

Not to turn this thread into some sort of glorified spelling bee, but the (or a) definition of controversial is "relating to or causing much discussion, disagreement, or argument : likely to produce controversy" - Bob Crow most certainly did cause discussion, disagreement and argument.
