Why's that?

i take it you haven't used our rail network much ?

just looked for you..........

if you go from l'pool central to ormskirk then ormskirk to preston it takes 1hr 19 mins but you only have a 5 min window at ormskirk.

if you go from lime st to wigan then wigan to preston it takes 54 mins with an 8 minute window at wigan.

you can also go via warrington but will have to hike between the stations in warrington (you have 1/2 hour to make that.... easy peasy)

due to our trains being very unreliable i wouldn't take a chance on a 5 minute or 8 minute changeover time, and if you miss the connection you will have an hours wait or so for the next one, which will get you there very last minute. if you can make the warrington one (11:22) then you will have more time to get there and even if you missed the connection you would get there on time with the next train.

i think the train from warrington will then stop at wigan en route.

my mates got the last train home from amsterdam 1 night, fell asleep and woke up at the end of the line on wassenaar. so they then got the 1st train the next morn after a very uncomfortable night on a bench, they both fell asleep and woke up back in centraal station, they said feck it and headed straight back out.
