Bitter Truths

On 12 April 2003, Moyes was sent to the stands during a game against West Bromwich Albion by refereeSteve Bennett for using foul and abusive language and for improper behaviour.[18] Everton finished 17th with 39 points, the lowest total in the club's history (although survival had been confirmed some time earlier),[19] just avoiding relegation.
Thought these were 2 bad seasons
Only 9 wins in 1979-1980 under Gordon Lee, ending up with 35 points (only 2 points for a win then) finished 19th
Only 13 wins in 1980-1981 under Gordon Lee, ending up with 36 points (only 2 points for a win then) finished 15th

I think we just don't have the attacking players with the ability to play the way Martinez wants. None of our attackers can create, control, keep hold of the ball at all this season. The ball just bounces off of Naismith and Lukaku, Barkley and Mirallas are both out of form and confidence it would seem, Lennon and McGeady are similar in that they have no end product.

The most any of the forward players seem they can do is pass the ball straight back to the midfielder or defender who just gave them the ball, they are trying to play the way Martinez wants but just aren't able to at the moment. The opposition can see this easily, close our forwards down quickly and pressure them into mistakes, they get the ball and counter attack. The confidence is getting lower and lower, and as the game goes on we run out of inspiration and ideas, then start to make more mistakes. I think we have faired better in Europe as teams don't close down as much

Osman and Kone made a bit of difference in being able to hold up and control the ball when they came on, but they aren't good enough to make a massive impact on the game.

Martinez will stick to his game plan and this will carry on, which means more frustrating games, but hopefully we stay up, spend a bit of money on two quality wide players who can keep hold of a ball and create something, also pray that Barkley gets back to what we know he can do, then we might see the football Martinez wants.

So frustrating watching us at the moment though.

I don't think we should neglect to remember the "Kopite Fixture Setter" who slightly stiffed us with an easy run in (making the previous games slightly harder) - I know it's only a minor thing and we're in this mess because of our own failings but hey - virtually all our most frequent wins are in the last few games (Villa, West Ham, Swansea away, Saints, Newcastle etc at home)..

I jest of course - it's really down to the management and the players but still it's an odd aside.

I've got a right to moan about Everton, i support them!!!!!!

Why the [Poor language removed] would you bother coming on another teams forum to write bollocks? You have your own problems trying to tie up deals for wannabe Stevie Me's without wasting your time on our shoite!!!!!lol:red:

So I'm a kopite now because I decided to be realistic for once? My Twitter timeline is full of blues moaning constantly we're not where Southampton/United are purely based on last season. It's unrealistic to want that with the squad we have (and the squad this forum has slated all season) at the moment.

Apologies for having a different opinion to the masses, it won't happen again.

But you're not being realistic, you're exaggerating everything which is why everyone, myself included, is questioning your motives.

TL;DR I know why Everton are [Poor language removed].

Right, I feel like I need to try and clarify just what is going on at Everton football club. The answer? Exactly what was meant to happen. As soon as Martinez signed up I was filled with 95% fear because for all the joy I got watching Wigan play I was always relieved I wasn't a supporter as they were predictable and always getting relegated.

I said to myself last season I would take anything above 18th in the league and to finish 5th was like an absolute miracle. Did we deserve it? [Poor language removed] yes, of course we did. The only problem is that this led fans to head into 2014/15 with completely misguided optimism for the season ahead. As soon as I read online one fan say "5th place minimum" I knew I was in for a rough year. Everton have some good - potentially great - players in the squad but we don't necessarily have a good -team-. How did we finish 5th you say? Well a mixture of new management adrenaline, fewer games, and some players carrying us.

We had the likes of Barry, Jags, Distin and Howard playing some of the best football of their careers all season long and couple that with the form of Lukaku, the emergence of Barkley and the scoring prowess of Coleman, we managed a record points total. This season, however, we have seen the true nature of the squad:

1. We lack any kind of leader.
We lack winners which, when you look at the team and the amount of younger players, is hardly surprising.
2. Our senior players are finished.
The old let's blame "Howard, Distin, Barry, Jagielka, Osman, Hibbert" for everything argument again, I see. Well Jagielka has proven in the last 2 months how absolutely not finished he is. Osman, Barry should be rotated more often, granted, but when McCarthy and Besic still serve up offensively 'sweet-f-a' it's hardly surprising that they are played. Look now Gibson is back, we are now seeing Barry rotated and subbed, and understandably so.
3. Our formation doesn't suit the squad we have.
What formation would you play mate?
4. Lukaku isn't quite as good as everyone wants him to be. (Does he play better on loan with a point to prove?)
He's a mere kid in football terms. Which 21 year old in world football do you know who has total consistency?
5. Barkley has regressed in a way.
See answer to number 4
6. John Stones is a [Poor language removed] wizard
Who has made mistakes? See Vs Young Boys, see Vs Arsenal. He's a very good prospect but just like barkley and lukaku he needs patience, yet he is afforded and they arent?

Everton sitting where they currently are in the table is where we should have finished LAST season realistically. We need to forget about being a Top 6 team at the moment because we're not and last season was a fluke. A major squad rebuild was required this year and started well with some long contracts, Besic & Lukaku, however it wasn't enough and I'd hoped January would continue that (LOL yolo optimism). Unless we change our squad and our flexibility with formations we will continue to show our true colours as a weakened premier league team.

I am a diehard Everton fan and it breaks my heart to see us flirt with relegation but these are some bitter pills I think we all need to swallow or else we'll all just end up topping ourselves come May.

I do hope that you're not a kopite as that above took me a good 5 minutes to type out.

If you are an evertonian then chill out mate, things are not that bad. He needs this summer and, as long as we stay up, things will improve dramatically next season imo.
