Biggest Everton false dawn

Hahaha.

Bad though innit?

You go from mad optimism 2 minutes before the game (best squad, these are schite, etc), to being overwhelmingly happy with a draw once they've gone one up within 15 minutes.

But ending up with a(nother) defeat.

I hate them and it's not as bad gettin beat by them as it was but still can't stand it and ban myself from football to stations etc till its blew over

Gosh I remember that one, just before christmas. Gary Speed, having been jeered all game, slotted in a cool penalty and the chants of "You should've gone christmas shopping" ringing out from the pseudo-manc-cretins. *shudder*

Edit - Almost as bad as Wigan turning us over that season as well IIRC
We travelled to Villa on Boxing Day and they smashed us 4-0 too.

Just looking at those fixtures, our form was as follows.

Start of December:
Blackburn away, won 2:0
United away, drew 1:1
WHU home, lost 2:1
Bolton home, lost 4:0
Villa away, lost 4:0
RS home, lost 3:1.

13 goals conceded in those final four games haha.

1977. Reached 2 cup semi-finals. Latchford, Thomas, McKenzie, Pejic, Andy King, Martin Dobson, we had some cracking players. If we'd had a decent centre half next to Mick Lyons and a good keeper we could have won the league. Should have signed Shilton :(
And a final x 3:( We could have been contenders.

Not necessarily a false dawn but I can still remember the feeling of winning the Cup Winners Cup and my older brother and his mates telling me that they would take me a European Cup game next season.

Then Heysel happened.

I remember my dad telling me and my sister he could only afford to take 1 of us to Rotterdam and it wouldn't be fair, so we watched in on the telly, but he would save up and take us to the European Cup Final the next season :(

When Moshiri took over and everyone said we'd have a 100m to spend.

Jokes.

When we finished 6th under Big Joe, Andrei was ripping the league to bits and we looked like we could really kick on... was gutted when Kanchelskis left, the only world class player I've seen at his best in Blue.

Mid nineties for me. Peter Johnson was gonna buy us ALL the players. Just won the FA Cup. Joe Royle in charge, Kanchelskis and Limpar on the wings with prime time Duncan up front.

Then we wanted Andre Flo and it all went to [Poor language removed].

This really.

70/71
!970 / 71: key injuries plus Catterick getting even more paranoid than he'd always been. Ended up 14th.

1987 / 88: Please take the gradually descending elevator to nowhere.
70/71 We were supposed to be at the top for the next 5 years heartbreaking really specially when we lost to the greeks and the red [Poor language removed] in the same week.
Catterick started to loose his marbles and only seemed interested in buying Newtons.

King's Dock, I remember seeing the prospectus brochures and getting excited as a kid.

The summer after finishing 4th in 2004/2005 after I saw the utter dross we brought in with that money.

The summer of 2016 when we were told we were going to sign all these boss players and it hasn't happened lol

On a more serious note I concur with a few people on here with king's dock debarcle and 1987 and being banned from europe I hate that we couldn't complete with the best teams around the world I reckon we could of won a european cup with the team we had
