Tie for start of 09/10 season, when hopes were for a kick on after the FA Cup run but instead started with getting rinsed by Arsenal, or Martinez's second season. Probably Martinez's second season.

Good shout mate. We'd just finished 6th with a mixture of real aggression and exciting wingers and then the next season slowly died a death. Big joe left and the normal relegation battle was resumed

The world class maanger shouts with Bilic, Dino Baggio and Casaraghi as the new spine; ended up with Howard MK 3, Gareth farrelly and Tony thomas
 

Season after we won the FA Cup and signed Kanchelskis. Genuinely thought we were on our way back then. D'oh.

That, or Martinez's second season.
 
summer of 2007?

we had great run in europa going out to fiorentina, had another season in there to look forward to, and then just didn't build on that. Lost half the bloody team to injuries, no better players were signed, yakubu then wound his everton career up in the november and yeah, just massive false dawn rather than a chance to go a step further.
