Kanchelskis and Royle left within weeks of each other. It took about a decade to recoverOpening day 1996/97 season beating the favourites for the league comfortably 2-0.
We had a very useful side and I truly believed we had a chance at the league.
By the end of the season Royle had gone and we had Claus Thomsen.

Garys have never been the same since then either. That period was horrible. I remember Everton just fell apart, I split up with my then long term girlfriend and the rave scene started to crumble all within a couple of months of each other. I hated the entirety of that 1997/98 season both on and off the field!
I hope it's not misplaced but I have a weird confidence that this latest one will go ahead.
