2025/26 Beto

Iv noticed in the games we as a team are poor, he has his better games. Because we resort to long balls and he looks ‘busy’. In games we have the ball on the deck, he’s atrocious

Was funny when Grealish passed him the ball and then had to wait 5 minutes for him to control it. He didn’t pass to him again. Which is an issue when he’s the centre forward.

I think this gets overstated to be honest. His run of goals was 4 games and the only ones that came from us playing that way were against Leicester. The derby goal was a free kick, palace was a break that came from them messing up a throw in and leaving us 2 on 1, and the United one was a loose ball in the box. People keep saying he was scoring because we were playing all these through balls but we weren’t really, he just had a purple patch, it happens.
There was at least 6 goals last season, including the derby free kick where it was rolled through to him, 2 v leicester, palace away, forest away, RS, cant remember the other. He can certainly finish, just go no confidence at all at present. This set up would probably suit DCL and his like more than Beto 🤷

Yea but what I was saying is it’s not like they were setting up to play that way, they are just individual instances of it happening. Our current set up doesn’t prevent us from having situations like the Liverpool and palace ones (and the forest one was doucoure).

Said it from day 1 and I really really want him to succeed but he's Terrible. Still can't understand how he scored as many as he did last season. Also don't understand how after all these years he can't control a football. Seems a good bloke at least. 😂. I think we'll bring someone in in January

Was interested in the stats so had a look...across *all* of the top 5 European leagues, he has the 10th most non-penalty xG per 90 minutes played (among players who have played at least 5 full games). He's 3rd in the prem, behind only Haaland and Mateta! Which is absolutely wild.

He is *second* in Europe for the discrepancy between his xG and his actual goals.

It's hard to describe how much of a statistical outlier that is. It's worth noting that you have to play well to rack up xG - positioning and being able to get a shot away are both as much a part of being a good striker as finishing is, so this isn't just a story of us creating loads and his finishing being awful this season - but wow it really has been awful.

As a rough reference, if he was on as much of a finishing hot streak as Welbeck is on this season (who is doubling his xG so far), he'd have 8 goals already.

The way the crowd groaned at him after the Ndiaye cross was sly, the defender got a touch that took it away from Beto and too far ahead of him. Shouts of get him off and the constant negativity won't help him or any other player at all.
I think they’ve been more than patient, better players have been treated much worse by our fans.
