2025/26 Beto

Just seen this that someone posted on Reddit. Beto's goal per minute stat is one of our best in the prem era.
And the Prince is second only to Lukaku!

With no match to think about, feeling a little sorry for Beto.

He is obviously terrible at many many things, but when they kept getting alternated every week, we all clamoured for Barry to get a run of 6 starts, just because he was the newest purchase and hadn’t yet proven whether or not he was ultimately crap. We just hoped he would “settle,” magically become “ready,” and be amazing. It did have to be done.

Beto’s sub appearances in the last few months have mainly been dire, but could he have done better if he’d been given a guaranteed run of starts instead of Barry to try and regain the form he hit this time last year? Neither of them are any good, but we playing United next week and not Sheffield Wednesday mainly because of his goals last year. We all said he was decent 1v1 with the keeper, and he certainly was.

We just keep starting Barry now in the hope that he turns out less crap than Beto. But neither are good enough, just in different ways. But only one of them is now getting the chance to grow into games.

This is certainly not a post claiming Beto should start. But only one striker this year has had calls for a run of games to help him find some form.

Fundamentally, when Beto is on the pitch, we stopped playing to his (limited) strengths. When Barry is on the pitch, we still don’t know what his strengths are!

No one would have been calling for Barry, if Beto had claimed the place he was handed-along with the number 9 shirt. That was his opportunity and he blew it.

I don't think Barry is getting a run of games to find some form, I think he's the one of the two, because of his age, that still has some potential left. Beto is what he is, he may find another purple patch but at 28, he isn't getting any better than he is now.
