When he came tactical changes were made with Nydaie moving into middle, was the first time Everton was set up to play to his strengths, play off shoulder. Which lasted 2 mins before it was changed again to suit lumping it again due McNeil injury. Still took his 2 chances both on target saved and then scores. Done more in 14 minutes than DCL has done in several entire games when it comes to scoring.
We also sent him a partner which made it 4 4 2...huge difference their defence had more to look after - you watch next game v Southampton same starting 11...

He's limited and has several big name detractors on this forum
He 100% outscores dom with similar game time in this team and he cares so much
Is he who I want to see leading the line next season...no...but he should be starting for now
I don’t know the stats so could be wrong but surely the team score more when DCL is in the side vs Beto. Crap finisher but, with Dyche’s style, DCL suits us much better

That being said, absolutely made up for him. Celebrated like we all would

We line up in 442 for most of the game tbf, as that’s our out of possession shape

….McNeil struggles to get alongside and beyond DCL in open play. A bit like Gomes in that role last season, their natural tendency is to sit a bit deeper. He does, however, offer a lot more quality in possession.
End of the day oldest slowest midfield in the prem - hence hoofball - easier away v standard opposition as we can defend & attack on the break - attacking any team at home those tactics don't work as we try to arrack more as our fans expect it !
Expecting a solo no nine to win thd ball in the air or k rock it down for himself is a very big expectation to bear fruit - 4 4 2 hast be our answer ,,,
Wat hing the blues is so frustrating under this manager!

Stays onside though👌

NcNeil being offside is physically impossible with his speed... One day we'll have a manager that likes his full backs to get forward, then I think McNeil will find joy coming in off the right. On the left he's too one dimensional and through the middle he struggles against better midfielders

Deserves far more minutes than he’s been getting, but that goes for a good few players in this massive squad we’ve built. They just can’t get a game….
