Best way to take (or not to take) kids to a game

Unless your five year old is genuinely obsessed with Everton, don't do it. You will be distracted and you'll all end up miserable. Worse, they will have bad memories and it could put them off the team and the sport.
If your wife's a fan then get a childminder -scary in a foreign country, but maybe look for one that is qualified and registered with the council - no reason you can't arrange all that before you travel. If your accommodation can't help maybe cold call/email nearby creches as a starting point.
If your wife is just going to humour you, let them all go and do something they'll enjoy.

Thank you all again for your suggestions. I cant wait to be among the Goodison faithful on the 16th!
I'm going to that game too, on a trip from NZ. Going with my partner who is a kiwi chick and never seen a game, and 9yo lad who is born and bred a kiwi, his first game. Going with my old man, my bro and my niece, all blues. we got a package as it was the only home game on while we were there and I didn't want to miss it.

I suppose it's the culture your used to. Just leave the kids with the missus and save wasting time, explaining all the scouse abusive terms about opposition player. Just go the game have a few pint's on county road, don't ask for light beer it's not a British thing and you'll have a good time. Go to greggs for a steak slice or steak pie and you'll be well up for the game.

My Grandson has just turned 1, the thought of taking him the game honestly fills me with utter horror.

Inevitable this would happen when you didn't buy him that drumkit mein GrandadGoatFrandel. @GoatJR with the blammos

Re. Bringing the 1 year old to the game, start him off slowly with a stream first.

Hello,

I am from the states and my family and I are coming over in Sept. and we are planning on going to to the West Ham game on the 16th. I have a 5 year old and a 1 yr old. I would love to take them both so that my wife could also make it but i have my reservations about bringing a 1 yr old to a game. But being as i have never been before i figured i would ask everyone's opinions on it. Also, aside from bringing them, where would be a good place to sit with kids? Obviously the family enclosure, but is there anywhere else? I'm looking at some tickets on stubhub right now that are Main Stand 4. Look like decent seats but i cant figure out how many of each class i'm getting. Its 5 tickets together and it list the classes as Adult, junior, and kids but not how many of each. Any help on this either? Sorry for all of the wordy questions but this might be the only Everton game i make in my life so i want it to be as good as possible. Thanks in advance for all your help. COYB
tbh mate, I'm not too sure how well Goodison is set up for a 1y.o. nappies feeding etc.
And I've had experience with the attention spans of a 5y.o. too (and wives)
I'd go on my own, but I'm a old dinosaur, not a modern parent.
You'll probably ace it no problem.
Let us know how it all went.

I'm not a big light beer drinker so not to worry there. And i've got other family with me on the trip, including my granddad who grew up right across from the grounds on Gwladys St so me and him are supposed to do some pre-match eating and drinking and hes gonna show me around so ill definitely be match ready by the time the whistle blows. ;)

Took my lad to an Away game for his first time to see Everton. It was his Birthday and we were in the area.
His lasting memory is the volleys of abuse the travelling toffees hurled at our own team :)
7 year old looks up at me... Dad are we in the wrong end? No son... Why are the other fans fans so mean to the Everton players then?... That's just the way some people cheer along the team son, they like them really.... Dad, what does "***** ****** yer **** ******" mean?

After learning to tune out the actual language, he loved the atmosphere loads of great chants and the blues won 1-0.
Home games are much better for kids, tho there's always some pi$$head not too far away to entertain the crowd with a demonstration of vocabulary :D

Sums up our fanbase. Lol.
