what do you rate as the best save you saw by big nev ?

one i remember in particular was a league or milk/rumbelows (the 3 handled thing we've never won) game against rotherham. i was in upper bullens near park end, this guy hit a volley from the edge of the box, the thing went like a dart off his boot heading top corner, their end was already celebration. big nev caught it one handed and stuck it on his hip. the guy was class.

he won player of the year on the back of the save he made against falco against spurs back in 85. there is no footage sadly, but it was already over him going in the net as he arched his back and scooped it from under the bar.

He did it again to Falco when we beat Watford 3-2
Remember one against Sheffield wed at Hillsborough low down, really hard to get to

Yup that one..i was there and to this very day i still dont know how it didnt go in

The man was a genius simple as that and that save just showed how good he was.

Maybe the only comparable keeper in modern times was peter schmeichal (sp?) he was a great keeper but just a bit behind nev

Big Nev was a one off. Not many keepers of his quality come along in a life time. Pure class. So many brilliant saves it would be hard to pick one. Coventry away were he made numerous blinding saves and even saved a penalty. He wasnt a big head either. Just went about his job and stayed out of the limelight. Absolutely brilliant. The best keeper I've ever seen and he was always switched on during the game. You can never praise this man enough (y)(y)(y)

Nev made some great saves he will stand alongside Dixie as a true Everton legend. It wasn't just his saves though, his distribution was outstanding as well.

Sheff Wed away, Varadi smashed it from around the penalty spot, Motson was already celebrating the goal on MOTD but Nev had other ideas, flung himself low to his right and pulled off a stunning save which i believe went on to win save of the season.

That's the one I was on about. Nice one

When he first joined Everton he lived in one of the roads off Town Row in West Derby. I was living in student accommodation directly across from his house. He was a great guy, always would stop for a chat etc. He hadn't passed his driving test when he first arrived so used to cycle down to Bellfield every morning :lol:

When we lost the ZDS final 4-1 to Palace, he refused to bring home his loser's medal :lol:
