Bernard is a 10?

I'm actually more confident Iwobi's introduction can allow us to play with a 'proper' 10 - or at least the 2019 version of a 10, which isn't the same as what a '10' was even six or seven years ago.

He can drop deep, pick up the ball and run with it. He's very good at that. How Lookman is, but a bit more strength to Iwobi.

The flip side is, we then lack Gylfi's goal threat.

One bad game for Sigurdsson. Let’s take our joint top scorer out next.

Opinions.

Yeah, let's replace one of our top scorers at no.10 with a guy who's scored 27 goals in 290 games.

Siggy scored almost half the goals Bernard has in his entire career last season.

Let's drop him because he had one bad game.

If it were one bad game, we wouldn't be talking about it at all. But it isn't.

People are becoming increasingly aware that Sigurdsson has plenty of downsides and, arguably, not enough upsides.

Yet, despite that, he was joint top scorer and had the most assists last season.

You want to drop our most productive player for players who have track records of not scoring over their entire careers.

Mind blowing .....

Sigurdsson was one of our best players last season. Along with Zouma and Digne.

why would we decide to move on from him (in the starting lineup) after one game? Mindblowing
It's okay, Gbamin is terrible, Kean shouldn't be playing until December, Bernard should be a 10, and we should sign 33 year old flunkies from Russia. Because our backup CF wasn't amazing and our other players couldn't quite finish away against Palace in a windstorm down 1 man for 20 minutes.

If Siggy had put that chance away I doubt this thread would even exist.

People are so knee jerk it's beyond crazy.

Isn't that the problem?

Even if he had scored he'd still have had a terrible game. If he had scored, people ignore that he had a terrible game.

He's very much like Lukaku in many ways - his odd goal disguises a multitude of sins that harm the team overall.

There's about 8 players in our team that do crap stuff every game that gets ignored, while Siggy does anything bad it gets highlighted.

How do you explain Siggy being our top goalscorer and assister if he's that bad?

Why don't the players you rate more have better stats than him?

I'm not trying to say Siggy is perfect, he's not, but despite all his faults, he's arguably our best player. The stats back it up.

He's not 'creative' though.

He puts in really good crosses. There's a difference.

When Gylfi has the ball in the final third, the majority of times something will happen - either a shot, a slide-rule pass (loads of times last season into Walcott or DCL who fluffed one v ones) etc.

He's creative. He just isn't somebody who pulls the strings. Never has been, never will be.
For me creativity whether crosses or passes or whatever is all the same. Gylfi unfortunately isn't giving us enough beside set plays. That's why I've been saying he's a second striker and not a midfielder. We need Iwobi to come through

Imagine replacing Gylfi, who scored 13 goals and got 6 assists at number 10 last season, with Bernard. Makes no sense whatsoever

Davies can be loaned out to a PL side.

Isn't that what he should be in the team for then? Taking those chances and being the difference between a tight win and a 0-0 against palace?

Price tag or not, siggurdson is that type of player that needs to be clinical and a matchwinner to warrant a place in the team. He has many flaws but if he can pop up and score big goals then that's his contribution. Either that or create those goals.

The minute he isn't then we should be dropping him.

And I'm not basing that on Saturday, first game of the season is always difficult for us.
