About a mile away from all the sights, so fairly central.Where abouts are you staying Dan?
We Stayed at Spittelmarkt midway from you towards Alexanderplatz where the large tv tower is, it is certainly worth a walk along there as there are loads of bars, restaurants and sights, here's a list of the places we ate and drank in I would recommend.About a mile away from all the sights, so fairly central.
The airport is great, because from there you can fly to lots of nice places.
Hope this helps.

STIEGE-Oranienstr. Nice romantic feel about the place, good prices and unpretentious, good large menu, great steaks, reasonably priced, large portions.
Zum Nussbaum-Next to Nicolakirche a very old traditional bar with great ales.
Zum PaddenWirt -near Spaundeur Str.- Typical Berlin food in something akin to a House, great ales staple food.
China City- Where the local chinese eat, plush yet reasonably priced restaurant on Leipziger Str.
Shezan Indian - Good restaurant on Neue Rosstrasse.
Hope this is the type of thing you're looking for, Berlin is a fantastic place,I'm not usually one for museums but the one's over there are something else.
