Berlin has a lot of very good low-cost vietnamese restaurants. Don't have any particular recommendation, but I've never been disappointed when I've gone to any of them.

If you visit that old church that's now a war memorial (right by where the terror attack happened), not too far away, maybe a 10 minute walk away along the main road, there is a cracking Greek place opposite a big hotel.

DDR Museums worth a visit and when you come out turn right and walk along the Spree for about 10 minutes and you'll come to an outdoor bar with seating on the riverbank facing the Bode-Museum. Great, friendly place for a drink and even has an outdoor dance floor. Come to think of it I was there in the summer so I'm not sure it'll be quite as good in winter!

Asman Indian restaurant in Mitte is great. Really friendly service, cheap prices which is not always the case in that part of Mitte and 2 for 1 on the cocktails. There's an organic food store near the Senefelder Platz subway (also U2, next stop up from Rosa Luxembourg). Walk towards that then up the road and there's some nice bars and restaurants. Bit more expensive than other parts but worth a look.

If you like a cheap dive bar then there's one or two not far from there on Torstrabe. Get the U2 subway to Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and turn left on Torstrabe and there's the CCCP bar and Schmitz. Both cheap dive bars but worth a look and they never seem to close - Drunken 20 player table tennis in Schmitz Bar is something to behold.

Kebab stores everwhere as well and they're open to the small hours and sell ale. For a cheap fill grab some currywurst from one of the hundreds of stands - great stodge for beer soaking.

I was going to post that there was a boss little bar called CCCP that I went to a few years back. Legendary night there.

Then I see @ClausThomsen posted about it lol. Is it meant to be a well known place? We randomly ended up there and I vaguely remember a dog running round which was strange at the time and still is thinking about it..

Spend some time in Friedrichshain mate.
I loved Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg, East Berlin is of my favourite places I've ever been to.

I'm not going to be much help here unless the OP plans to go clubbing.

One word of advice though is to hire a bike. The city is extremely well equipped for cyclists, there's cycle lanes everywhere and motorists show you a lot more respect than they do over here.

Dunno if it's that well known but it's one of them that once you go you don't forget about it in a hurry. We was staying about 300 yards down the road from it so there and Schmitz were often the place for a nightcap. Usually got off to bed about 2-3 am and it was showing no signs of slowing down.

The Zoo is a good day out as well. Absolutely huge and you can do 5-6 hours just going round once with the odd stop for a beer at the cafe.

We went and during the afternoon they started setting up little stalls on the main entrance path. Didn't know what it was but started noticing people walking round with little snacks and drinks so figured it was some kind of private function and thought no more of it. Come 6pm they start turning off the lights and it's time to go and we head to the exit and go past all these stalls. They're really busy and everyone is grabbing food and drink and I ask the missus if she can see any money changing hands?

We end up convincing ourselves it's some kind of free thankyou thing from the zoo and we just happened to have dropped on so she grabs a couple of small bottles of wine and I grab some food and we go at it. More wine and find a table and all is well in the world. After a bit I clock the beer stall and decide to have a change from the wine. I wander over to the beer stall and there's just a single beer left as a bloke's grabbed a couple just as I get there. I point at the beer, smile and ask the girl "OK?" and she says "Ja", I say "Danke" and then asks me something in German.

"Sorry, English..."
"OK - you want two beers, I pour another"
"Ja, Bitte, thankyou..."
"Err...Your wristband, you have?"

Ah! Think on my feet and say allergic and say my girlfriend has them. Go back over to our table and ask her if she's clocked anything about EVERYBODY ELSE there. Of course I can see that they've all got wristbands on and can't believe we haven't clocked it. Must be a members/friend of the zoo kind of function or something.

By then though the alcohol is kicking in so we grab some more drinks, go and sit out of the way of the girl at the beer stall and get bladdered watching the hippos swimming around before quitting while we're ahead and end up in the Platz by the bombed out church where there is a stage and bars set-up and a free music festival on. Great day out.

No plans for clubbing as I’m with me mum and dad lol

Olympiastadion is the best stadium I've ever been to. Aside from being visually amazing, you can feel the history around the place. Definitely worth going to a game there if there's one on as it's very different to over here. I haven't done the tour but hear it's good. It'd probably even be worth going just for a look round at the statues, swimming pool etc.

Victory Column is just a short walk alongside/through Tiergarten from the Brandenburg gate, and is fantastic. The Soviet War memorial you pass on the way is impressive too. Going up the column at night was one of the best things I've ever done, and you can somehow tell what was east/west depending on which way you look.

You could easily make a day of getting to Haubtbahnhof(sp?) station and just having a walk round. I wasn't there long, but it's easily one of my favourite cities.
