this performance was an abosulte disgrace. the fact that the first tackle was made by saha in th 78th minute tells a story. fair enough, we were missing a load of players but the midfield and forward line were still reasonably strong. we didnt press them at all and gave them too much respect in my opinion. there was no fight at all which is unusual for an everton team.

even still booked my tickets for return game.

Only an opinion, but I think Moyes had mentally written this off and used it an exercise.
Gave Yak a game, debut for Seamus, give Cahill the armband and see if he can find some form etc etc
Probably didn't think he could go there and get a point and so rested the iffy ones completey.

There was not as much pain in this for me as say Wolves, Stoke, and Fulham which for me, were far worse results.

We talk about how much we miss Arteta and Jags, I think we miss Phil.
Not his football ability, but he's our rock.

I agree with the bit about Moyes mentally writing it off. I have studied Davey's facial expression quite a bit and he didn't look bothered. Not in a bad way but in a - "well what else am I supposed to do?" way.

He was probly hoping we could of squeezed a point, but errrrr....we didn't.

I can't see us getting smashed again at goodison though. Benfica were not as good as i thought they would be, they lost to Athens who we smashed...(good work rodders)...

I'd agree with that, whilst they had there moments and benefited from our mistakes I did expected more of an all round performance from Benfica.

They didn't dominate possession and they didn't really stamp there authority on the game despite us being unbalanced and injury hit. We still saw an awful lot of the ball for an away side and with better quality in the final third we should have hurt them more.

Pablo Aimar was disappointing, he only seemed to appear on set pieces and didn't have a massive impact in open play - in terms of controlling the game and making things tick.

But there quality outwide and upfront was there for everyone to see, they ripped our back four a new one, especially Gosling and Coleman.
