Uganda are looking at introducing new laws that permit the death sentence for gay people. Is the government doing its people a service here by helping prevent the spread of HIV or is it a suppression of human rights? Either way it looks like being gay in Africa could kill you on two fronts, if not the HIV then the government will get you.

There are savages in every country. Sometimes the law backs them up, sometimes it turns a blind eye, here it pays lip service to equality.

The Strand, London, 2006: walking from Charing Cross Station towards The Savoy. Couple stop to kiss. Up pulls white van with some heroes. Lots of abuse; a brick hits one of the blokes on the back of the head. Saw it myself.

USA, 1998, Matthew Shepard. Abducted by two rednecks, whipped with barbed wire then set on fire. A 21 year old kid who didn't fit in. (Google if you haven't read about it.)

Plymouth / London / Liverpool etc, etc. murders, torture & daily hassle.

"Christian" nutters / right wing nutters. All leads to grief.

Your mistake is thinking that gay somehow=aids. As homophobic and ignorant as it gets this post on so many levels.

Pubs in Queensland used to be able to refuse service on the grounds of being homosexual (it could well be still the case), thats how Sydney came to be the place that 'they' formed a community, ironic really as Queensland has just the name for 'them.'

Ummmm. I don't think he's making any sort of homophobic comment at all. HIV rates in Africa are off the charts compared to other parts of the world.

First off, apologies to those who have deep religious convictions if I offended. you. Absolutely not intended. Using " " was meant to show that I knew they were not really religious. Truly religious people make it their business not to trot around the gaff hurting people. I know that.

I struggle to come up with an adequate definition of "Nazi" (see what I did there?), but I think it involves the inner conviction that an alternative way of life from the mainstream is, in some way criminal. Sometimes this belief is justified on a warped idea of religion; sometimes it is put down to "the good of the state".

The real problem (in my personal view) with Aids in Africa is a deep cultural belief that men prove themselves through sex and the number of children they help produce. Heterosexual Aids in Africa by far, by a million miles, outweighs Gay transmitted infection.

This, of course, doesn't suit the nutters. And so we get into increasingly bizarre discussions about executing Gays. Put the shoe on the other foot.

A law is passed in Britain outlawing consensual straight sex. Infraction of this law is punishable by death. Now then ... any view on that?
