Hey there, this is my first thread here. I've been an Everton fan for about 3 years now, which started when i was first looking for a premier league team to support. Probably what sold me was watching that 2-2 draw against spurs with a tim cahill/seamus coleman inspired comeback.
However, i can't help but feel that the club really needs to start expanding its presence in Asia. Down here you would have to go to a specialist store to get an Everton kit even after we've switched to Nike, whereas you could even find a Villa kit at a store in the mall.
I'm not too sure if there are any other Singaporean Blues on this forum, but the ones i've seen on the street have always been quite a few years older than me, thus i've been too shy to say anything even though they're walking around in their kits. That's another thing, i have never met another everton fan my age, i'm currently 17 and the majority of our generation are the expected big 4 supporters with a growing number of bandwagon City and Spurs fans over the last couple of years. I've been wondering how the club could increase its attractiveness to people in Asia, i mean obviously to footie fans in the USA we have the likes of howard, donovan, brian mcbride even, but down here only 'champions' seem to get any support.
Most knowledgeable fans i know respect us well enough, especially in light of results like the 4-4 and 1-0 win over Utd, we do have a reputation as being up for it when the big boys come to play, but it's really quite saddening to see us for the large part ignored by the local media. The Big four (big 6 + city and spurs now i guess) bias here is incredible, perhaps more so than in England. I can't tell you how many times i've wanted to sock somebody in the face for writing us off as a '**** team' based solely on the fact that they've never heard of us. To be honest, there are even a group of red****e fans that don't even recognize or know that we're rivals, which just goes to show the club's standing here in Singapore.
I just hope that with a cup win in the near future, or maybe a tour to our region (though not java, that was a disaster) in future seasons would see our global presence rise.
Sorry if this was posted in the wrong section or something btw...
