Beer, revisited

Old Speckled Hen is an ale and Boddingtons is bitter though? Also OSH is better from a bottle.

I recommend this, Bass Pale Ale. Been in Sainsburys and Asda for £1.25 lately.

Hmmm... I thought OSH was pretty good in a Nitro. May need @Torontoblue (or someone similarly qualified) to comment (rather, clarify), but there's a sharp contrast between the English and American draft beer. American beers have much more carbonation, and English beers on draft in the US can't really approach the native flavor; the Nitro cans do a really nice job of approximating the natural draft feel and taste (at least as memory serves). For that reason, OSH and Boddington's are comparable and I'll put them in the same group (also, Boddington's claims to be a Pub Ale, but that's little difference to me whether it's a bitter or ale.)

Having a hard time with beer at the moment! Prices of imports has risen stupidly the past few months, and I`ve been stung and had so many drain pours, that I`m just getting fed up and now I`m back to drinking wine. A basic imported 6 pack is around $22.00, and a 650ml is about $12 to $14; for a few dollars more, I can get a good Cotes de Rhone or Tempranillo! The local brewers don`t really do stuff I like, so they don`t help much, and their pricing is almost as much as imports. Can you believe there is no year round stout or porter in Edmonton??!!??

Does that have a smoky flavor? Tried the Sam Adams/Longshot (home-brew) Gratzer and wasn't a huge fan of the smoked beer flavor.

Also, how does a brewery named Heller sell dark beer?
Yeah it's very smoky and dark, but with a cloudy wheat beer style, doesn't do it for me at all. The first one we tried from them was a very lightly smoked lager, that was really nice. We've picked up their Maerzen dark smoked beer as well, got a feeling I'm not gonna be too keen on that either.

Can't find much info on the brewery, looks like a really small traditional place.
