Beer, revisited

Is cains still going over there. I was there in 2007 and went to the brewery and spent the afternoon at the little bar attached to it watching sky sports news for transfer gossip. Jagielka signed!

It went bust a good while ago, although a local micro brewery have started producing beers under the Cains name.

The Cains Brewery Tap is still going, but keeps really weird hours.

With the help of a couple of family members I guzzled down my very first home brew attempt last Saturday. I'd anticipated a vinegar-esque foul concoction or at best something that tasted not quite right but it instead turned out to be a very nice hoppy IPA.

A tiny bit of sediment towards the bottom of the keg due to it being fermented in the same container it was served from but overall a great success. I've definitely got the bug now. Trouble is you really do need a day where you're gonna be left in peace for a few hours on 'brewday' so it could be a while before I get another one done.

Was in the Denbigh in town a few weeks back and had a couple of pints of Salt. Quite enjoyed it. Getting some shopping in for my mum today and saw Salt Casual Pale there. Is it a similar drink ? Thanks

Salt is the brewery, so the beer may be similar if the other was a pale beer too - and around the same strength

I went to Sainsbury’s earlier and Beavertown Gamma Ray was £9 for a pack of 4 cans lol

Before I passed out I spotted these for about half the price, and I quite like them. I’ve blazed through the first three cans and I feel a bit sad now. Very decent drink. 5.8%, too.
