Beer, revisited

Mate you guys are the kings of craft ale, 20 years ahead of anything we do over here. Remember drinking a sweet potato and butternut squash APA in the States a couple of years ago,that ruined beer for me,the bar that day was set. Everything has just been plain average since.

Unless it's a pint of Cains Bitter, Cains FA, Trappers Hat or Plum Porter (in fact, name countless other cask ales) then I'd have to disagree. @COYBL25?

Lately I've been drinking stuff I've had on hand forever.

Tonight it's a Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA from April 16, 2011. It weighs in at a muscular 18% abv and it's drinking like a deeply boozy barleywine, all molten fruitcake. Nice way to spend a couple of hours.

Big,dank bugger that one! Looks like canal water....18%....yeahhh that's like a smack in the chops. I had a Belgian strong beer last year that was 24%. You could have ate it with a spoon.

Last nights offerings :

Wobbly Weaver 4.3% - Martland Mill ( Wigan - new one to me )

Gold - 4.5% - JW Lees.

I was on the fence with the Weaver, as it had a bit too much going on, but the Gold was good, crisp and sweet - would make a good curry beer.

Hey hey, it's a 2011 Parabola, a barrel-aged imperial stout from our friends at Firestone Walker of Paso Robles, California. At 12.5% alcohol it's a deep, smooth charmer; the years have smoothed its edges and sublimated its booziness. The 22 oz bottle is certainly more than I need. No one here drinks but me, though, so I'll have to step up and be the hero.

My new favourite ale, purchased yesterday. Supping this took me back to my early childhood when my mam would leave the last mouthful of the bottle of Mackeson my old fella brought back for her from the pub.

Very nice pint, hazy session IPA with loads of flavour. Very like a lot of American “craft” beers.

Asda. They have a few shelves separate from your usual suspects that contain the craft ales. That can cost £1.25 and it was delicious.
