Watching the match yesterday, one thing I noticed about him is that he seemed to be all over the shop. A few times I saw playing him on the right wing when he was starting upfront?

I think he needs a boost for his confidence. Maybe Moyes should give him captain's armband for a few matches as incentive. Sounds a bit silly but he went missing towards the end of last season and when Grayson gave him the armband, what happened? He scored the winning goal which sealed promotion for us.

I think, though, it's quite understandable that he has gone from the 3rd tier to the 1st and he must be feeling a bit of pressure being up front on his own. Another idea is maybe Moyes trying 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 for a few matches, give him a bit of support up there.

hahahaha, yeah, give captain's duties to a plumber who has 150 minutes of premier league experience. What a joke.

Behave you.

Republic Of Leodensia:

He seems to be not going in physically enough at the moment. I think he's a little over-awed by it all at the moment.

He's taking too much time to turn and isn't battling enough and he's getting roughed up and allowing them to do it.

It'll come but its all mental with him at the moment it looks

He hasn't taken "that step yet" mentally it seems.

I don't blame Beckford. He's pretty much been given the Marcus Bent job upfront by himself- run around chasing lost causes and hope that something breaks for you. He's getting no service at all. How frustrating must it be for him? Moyes says that we're not doing it in the final third. It's not that we're missing chances. We're not creating them to miss.

If he's going to persist with 4-5-1, then Coleman has to start on the right and Pienaar needs to be getting in round the back to offer another body in the box. Otherwise, play Beckford and Saha together, move Arteta back out to the right and have a solid central pairing of Cahill and Fellaini.

i think most people agree becks cannot play as a lone striker and needs to play in a partnership.
personnaly i think we only have 1 player that can play the lone role productively (other than yak who is hit and miss imo) and hes a midfeilder , tim cahill.
he can leap , hold up play , chase the ball down , runs into channels , uses his strength and is a total handful for 90 minutes.
added to that the un-balance of the left and right wing , i think a solution could be cahill moving up top and arteta going to the right.

yesterdays lineup for eg could have been....

..................howard
.coleman jagielka distin baines
.arteta heitinga fellaini pienaar
.................rodwell
..................cahill

with saha and beckford available to come on (or start) as a partnership , where we would see both players being much more effective.

Was just a suggestion mate. An idea which has worked before...

Behave you.

Seems that way. I know he is capable of giving it his all against the "big boys". Thing is, like I said, he's up there on his own whereas at Leeds he had Becchio to

But yeah, he will gel eventually.

I'm still certain he will do ok for us. Nothing at all to back it up with but it's a feeling. Saha and him up front would be good.

I think that part of the problem is that Beckford and Cahill both play right up against their opposite numbers, making them easy to mark, rather than dropping off or coming wide to find space. In most of the highlights you'll watch, Baines will have the ball and he'll look up to see forwards stood next to their markers in the box. We definitely need more movement upfront.

Solid in what exactly?

I would rather play Cahill as right midfielder, then him alongside Fellaini in central midfield in 4-4-2.

They both get stuck in with the tackles and close down quickly. They'd be difficult to break through. One could go forward while the other sat, along the lines of Bracewell and Reid.

If you played Cahill on the right he'd probably drift inside to try and get involved in central areas, leaving the fullback exposed. If he stuck to that position he'd have far fewer opportunities to get into the box to score. He can't beat a man. I can't say I've seen him cross a ball, but he's the one we want on the end of crosses, not delivering them. Even Ossie would be more effective RM!

Has it ever occorred to anyone that Beckford may not be good enough, that he will not be another Cahillesque type signing. After the previous game Moyes was commenting that he was on a free and the club were taking a chance, just ask DaveK.

When we're stuck in mid table obscurity cause we are relying on a league one bum to score us goals he will come good don't worry. Be too late but hey he was free.

Spurs and Man U are shaking in their boots about coming up against him again..

Don't forget how he tormented both United and Spurs in the Cup last season. He will score goals if we give him opportunities. We're not creating anything at the moment.
