BE HONEST

Hand on heart I was a little nervous about the appointment as I had him pegged as a nice bloke who could be too soft in the dressing room and a little too naive to get results on a regular basis. Thrilled to be wrong , there is a backbone of titanium under that coat and his determination and hunger have knocked me off my feet , that combined with the culture of class and winning mentality he has oozing through our great club literally has me bursting with pride . What an ambassador for the beautiful game ,what a man and what a future we have!

I was unsure at first as whilst I thought he'd improve us attacking wise, I wasn't sure what would happen regarding defence. It's been a fantastic season though, better than nearly anyone would've expected. We seem to have become even classier as a club, too. Which is great.

I was dead against his appointment on account of Wigan's diabolical defensive record and his unwillingness to contemplate a more direct style in order to to stay up.

Despite all the revisionism within the fanbase (hello ToffeeWeb) Moyes's teams played good football, especially in latter days. Under Martinez, though, it has gone up a level this season. Some of our football has been devastating, as Newcastle, Arsenal and Man United will attest.

And Martinez is far more personable character than Moyes, with sunnily optimistic disposition. And that is the major difference.

Whether he leads us to a trophy win will depend, I am afraid, on the level of support he receives from the Board.

I liked Martinez a few years before he arrived and always said I wanted him to replace Moyes when he goes. Ironically the only time I wavered from that was last summer when he became my number 2 choice behind Pereira. Always liked him, was glad we got him. Never did I know though just how right he'd be here.

I was really concerned when Bill announced Roberto as our next manager, I had major doubts as to whether he had it in him to manage EFC. Now I am absolutely made up with Bill's choice

When Roberto was appointed a lot of fans were not warm to his appointment but this season has proved to be a successful one at that. I have not known one fan to come forward to admit that he or she was one of the one's who doubted his appointment. I was always in favour of Roberto coming to Everton because of the football he played at Wigan despite their relegation.
We as a club will get stronger and better. Roll on next season
I did not want him and I'm very pleased to be wrong, not sure of the point of this thread

I too was critical of his appointment but within a week I realised I'd made a mistake.

Whether we win anything or not under him, I'm happy with the way he has brought back the belief in Everton as a force.

Take yesterday for instance, all the kopite media were disappointed with us not beating the potential champions.
That's how far we've come in just one season. The fact we are considered to be a top team not just capable but expected to beat teams like city.

Long may it continue into next season where we mount a 2 pronged attack on Europe and the Premier League title.

.....or it could come crashing down around our ears in familiar Everton style.

I can't wait for it to start all over again to find out.

COYB!!

There are loads of people who have said they didnt want him but are happy to be proven wrong in other threads. Is the point of this one just to get all those people(myself included) into one place?

I was worried about him coming in as manager. I'm glad he's proved to be the change we needed. Been an exciting season. More to come next season hopefully.

Did not trust RM when it came to defending - still at times I am cautious.

This is his first season and he has had a great season, but we need to see how he does next season before we see how good he really is.

All will depend on what players he signs.

Under DM only 2 seasons we were not in the top 8.

Man Utd, Spurs, Arsenal, Newcastle, Sunderland (as they have money), Villa (new owner on the cards), Southampton will all spend - so we need to get the players in as we do not want Europe to affect the league position next season.

Robles and Alcaraz fill me with fear. Did he have Titus Bramble and Emerson Boyce at Wigan or am I getting a bit confuzzled? He appears to know how to play football when we are going forward, and as yet we haven't been found out too often when having to play defence. But how much of that is having been drilled so well by Moyes and the legacy he left, as well as getting water carrier McCarthy in to shore it up alongside Barry whos reading of the game and calm distribution and break up play has married so well to McCarthy's game.
Its already an A+ for his first 10 months in the job, but no CL next season might see Lukaku move on. Replacing his goals and threat wont be easy on a budget of a cheeky fiver, and Europa League is going to do chapters of harm to our strongest eleven next season.
I read Wigan have played something approaching 60 games this season, had we had to manage that alongside the fairly bad run of injuries we've sustained would we be finishing fifth/pushing for fourth or more?
