The only reason I won't say Westwood is because he actually has never won a golfing major title in his entire career. He's number one on virtue of being consistently second-best in the big tournaments. Like a golfing Andy Murray.

Phil Taylor for me, but saying that if you were to say he should win it on sporting achievement, he technically should have won nearly every year for the past decade!

David Haye is a good bet. If you take the entire 12 months from right now on board, he's beaten Valuev to become a proper British Heavyweight champion and made two defences - albeit against makeweight opposition.

Yeh maybe, but Phil the Power does it year after year after year. Yeh he may annoy people, but he backs it up with great performances.

I'd say this is year after year:
Between 1977 and 1987, Moses won 107 consecutive finals (122 consecutive races) and set the world record in his event four times. In addition to his running

But anyways I digress, I think Westwood is a shoe in surely?

Itz out of him an AP, but as i say, there will be a large backing for Taylor, i reckon that is your 1, 2, 3 right there

btw totally agree with you about The Power, I just think in a popularity contest Westwood will win. Which is a little bit of a shame.

I like the list this year, a good diverse eclectic mix of sports stars from different types of sports

Sports Personality, famously described as contradiction in terms. Or was it as an oxymoron, either works.

We should change the name to BBC Sports Achiever of the Year or BBC Sports Popularity Award.

We've had little exposure to their personalities after all. Judging by the monotonous simplistic drone that comes out of half the sports people you ever hear (especially grand prix drivers - god have they had charisma bypasses or what?) its a wonder their 'personalities' are being judged on anything.

ergo a crock of [Poor language removed] unless Stephen Fry or someone takes up Test Match Cricket.

Should be Cavendish seeing as he absolutely dominates his sport and has a personality, but it'll be Westwood despite him not having won a major all year.

This. No way he will win because the British public for some reason prefer to celebrate mediocre achievements in other sports rather than someone dominating in road cycling. Shame he couldn't get a gold on the track at the last Olympics, maybe more people would be paying attention then.
