Baxter Ready?

Ok, so if he hasn't done enough to earn a place on the bench, then why did he start the last two friendlies?

When Vaughan made his debut, he hadn't done half the things Baxter has done.

It's a friendly in a squad that is down to the bare bones. We have lots of injures, we've let 3/4 players go and we haven't signed anyone yet. Also the African boys have only just returned.

He's the best option we have at the moment and it's not hard considering he's competing with John Paul Kissock. He's in the squad because half of our normal squad aren't there, that's it really.

He played above Arteta because Arteta isn't ready yet, he's still working himself back from fitness.

Vaughan had proven himself in the reserves aswell as Youth level, Baxter has yet to have a proper run of games in the reserves. Once he proves himself at that level then maybe he will be though about for selection.

Artetas not ready to start. we have a decimated midfield and clearly Baxter was the next best thing available. he is a very talented player and i dont doubt he will get game time this season but imo he is not yet ready to be playing consistently in the premiership. i hope he gets game time this season but i think he will be used similarly to Rodwell last season- 1 or 2 games.

Right, so your telling me that a guy who has been instrumental in our recent successes, and is fit to play (just needs games) loses out to a guy who according to many here, is not fit to grace our first team squad. Well that's ridiculous.

Also, why wasn't JPK playing instead? Because he's had loads more experience than Jose, and again to many here that is more important than talent.

There is no way Moyes would play Baxter as the attacking midfielder in 2 our of 3 games unless he had plans for him.

I don't think I need to say anymore on the matter, but I was right about Rooney many years ago, I was right about Vaughan and Anichebe, and I'm going to be right about Baxter. And when he bangs one in against Liverpool, I will expect a stream of apologies.

Not seeing it.

He's been ok in the preseason matches but hasn't shown me anything for me to say he's gonna crack the first team. Now now anyway.

The only thing in his favor right now is the Premier League going from 5 subs to 7 subs on the bench.

He'll have the chance to make the bench and if we're blowing someone out like say Sunderland last year, then he might get minutes like Rodwell did.

Arteta returned to full training about a week ago and Moyes is building him up. He wasn't supposed to play until we got to America but Moyes has decided to give him 15-30 minutes here and there. He's nowhere near fit enough to play a full game, as Moyes said he's a long way from full fitness. That's the only reason he's in the team.

JPK probably wasn't playing because Baxter is better than him. Kissock is also miles off, I'd be suprised if he actually made it to be honest. It's not really stiff competition fighting off Kissock for a place. If Arteta, Pienaar, Osman, Cahill and the new signings where here and fully fit Baxter would be playing with the reserve team.

I don't see how It's hard to see that we hardly have any players available. We have injuries and thats the only reason Baxter has played. No ones said he's not fit to grace our team. In a few years I'm confident he will be but not now........He is nowhere near ready. Maybe he'll get a few sub appreances if we are low on numbers but thats about it for this season.

It was not hard to see that Vaughan and Rooney where going to make it to be honest. Everyone including myslelf was asking for them to be played. Victor I was never sure about, he was so inconsistent in the reserves.

So who would you choose him instead of in the current squad?

I dont see the point in rushing him into the first team, obviously someone who is 16 still has development to make and this may or may not be served in the younth teams or reserves, i can only see the detremint in playing him to early, especially as he hasnt signed pro terms yet, and given who his agent is rumoured to be, well banned agent that is!

On the footballing side i think he would be eaten up, in a prem standard midfeild game at tis stage in his development, best he could hope for is to make the bech maybe get a few minutes if we are coasting and maybe a sub apperance 4-0 up against Yeovil in the carling cup!

I cant see the point in rushing him hes not close to the player hes going to be just yet.

Where is Kissock out of intest is he injured!

Well trust me TX Bill? Please have some faith in the Ghost. I'm the all seeing all knowing. I have the delorian. I have seen this dude kick the premierships' ass.

To all others who doubt. What does it matter if he does play? Will people be upset if he does? Will it piss people off? For me it will be a proud moment, as another one of our academy boys make the grade. To be honest I would rather see us bring through 3 or 4 players a season rather than spending money on egotistic charlatans.

Just let's be optimistic and cheer up!

I'm not being negative I'm being realistic, there's a difference.

Ofcourse it matters, we have better players like Osman, Pienaar, Cahill, Arteta, Van der Meyde and two or three signings. I don't see the point in playing a player who isn't as good as them.......yet. Unless we are in an injury crisis there's no need too use him.

Let him develop, find his position learn his game and we'll see an excellent talent very soon. Atleast let his compete in the reserves before we throw him into the big time.

I do have faith in the all knowing Ghost. (y)

It won't bother me at all if he plays because I also have faith in the all knowing David Moyes and if he feels he's ready to play, he'll put him out there. He did with Rooney. He did with Vaughan and Big Vic. He will with Baxter.

No shortage of optimism and cheer over here. :D

I'm not saying put him in from the start, well actually I'm not saying do anything because like you and everyone else, we don't get to make that decision. I am just interpreting what I believe Moyes will do this season with the young lad. I honestly believe he will play some first team football this season.

Personally I would rather we do an Arsenal and [Poor language removed] the Carling Cup off for the seniors and just play the kids. Can only benefit.

Fair enough, I do think he might get some sub appearences towards the end of the season like Vic and Vaughany.

Yeah I think he will too. That's basically all I'm saying. Baxter coming through sooner rather than later will be a good thing. Why? Because he's got the lot, and 2 because Moyes will only play him when he feels he is ready, not us.

So when he does play, it will be because Moyes knows.

i haven't seen him play yet, so i guess i don't have as much right to weigh in, and if you believe that, feel free to disregard

from the sound of it, it seems like he has the technical ability but doesn't have the physical ability yet. someone mentioned he might get pushed around a bit because the EPL is pretty physical. personally i think if this is the issue, then the best way to toughen him up is to let him take a couple knocks and get used to it. look at vaughn, at the start i didn't feel he was all that physical, but he quickly warmed to the idea and now imo he's probably one of our most physical players

we play hull and stoke early on, hopefully we'll snot them both, or atleast one, and we'll be able to give our youngsters some substitute time against them.

i don't know what condition the lads in right now, but i really hope he's ready, because young players tend to be quick and have a good amount of energy, and i feel our youngsters are going to have an important role this term.
