The central defender Sebastien Bassong (23) is ready to leave Newcastle after relegation in the Championship. Christophe Henrotay, the player's agent, spoke of the likely destinations of its suppressionfootmercato.net"The interest of clubs in Premier? E 'practice, especially for Everton. We will decide today or tomorrow whether to buy Manchester City Everton Lescott is butter on Bassong otherwise City will be the same as taking Bassong alternative to Lescott.

From Wiki

Bassong is a graduate of the famous Clairefontaine youth academy. It has a high reputation of producing some of the world's most gifted players, including the likes of Thierry Henry, Nicolas Anelka, William Gallas and Louis Saha.

In July 2008 he was offered a one week trial at Newcastle United, and made his debut in a pre-season friendly against Doncaster Rovers, in which numerous songs and chants were made about him, one being "If 46 scores we're on the pitch".[1]

On 29 July 2008 it was reported on the official FC Metz website that the club had come to an agreement with Newcastle for the transfer of Bassong and that he would sign a contract very soon, the fee was £500,000. On 30 July it was confirmed that Newcastle had agreed a fee with Metz for Bassong.[2]

In total, Bassong made 87 appearances over three seasons for Metz.[3] He made his professional debut for Newcastle on 26 August in a Football League Cup game away to Coventry City, before making his first league game for Newcastle away to Arsenal when he came on as a sub for José Enrique. He received his first red card for the club away to Wigan Athletic on 26 December. Another came on 16 May 2009 as part of 0–1 home defeat to Fulham in the penultimate game of the season. On August 3rd 2009, Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp denied rumours that he had a £10million bid for his services rejected on the previous day.

Looks like Wobbly Head is sniffing around him so it's a no go.

Think they are looking for about 8 mil, lot of money compared to 500k they brought him for last season. In a defence that let alot of goals in last season.

This isnt happening we recommended him to them last season.

I can safely say we will not be signing a Newcastle defender, does anyone remember there defence last season.

Exactly what I was gonna say.

How anyone could think about buying one of those defender's is beyond me.

Surely they should be judged individually though, Bassong did have a good first season in the Premier League. He was there best player by quite a distance to be fair to him.

I think I could've looked a decent defender in that team.

Really dont know about him

It's a bit harsh to write him off after the season Newcastle had.

They only conceded 4 more goals than Sheff Utd did when they got relegated, we grabbed Jagielka from them and he's not been too bad a signing!...

He only started 26 games for them as Coloccini & Taylor were preferred for a while and was used on the left quite a bit rather than centrally... Could be handy, their website has him described as "a left-footed centre half/left back"

Another issue though is that he was called up for Cameroon in May, not been capped yet, so might still hold off and try for France - but could be another African Nations loss.
