So for not far off £60m we have a pair of forwards both missing some basic attributes. That's some p*** poot scouting if you ask me. I hope we don't spend any more money on players who "might" turn out to be decent. Anyone signed now needs to be better than what we have, no gambles - which got us into a mess in the first place.

Dont worry, its not real. We spent 47m on them, AKA 1/3rd of an Isak.

I dont get the need for people to greatly exaggerate our already poor spending, but I guess it makes them happy so thats good.

Serious question- how do people distinguish between ‘not ready for the prem’ and ‘not very good’? Is it just an age thing?

I’ve heard both phrases used about Chermiti (who can’t even score in Scotland) and Kean (who is succeeding in Italy).

Players’ trajectories obviously differ but Are there really that many CFs who are not brilliant at 20 but become brilliant later? Vardy would be the obvious example of this, but can’t you tell how good most players are going to be by the age of 20? If not, the whole recruitment and scouting youth thing seems a massive gamble.

Regarding Barry, we don't have a lot to go off, but he hasn't produced any moments of magic in his limited minutes so far, yet also hasn't missed any gilt-edged chances in front of goal.

Beto has scored once and missed a bunch of other chances or cocked up some decent opportunities where he's made completely the wrong decision, miscontrolled the ball, strayed offside which is a huge weakness to his game, etc.

Against Liverpool though I'd still go with Beto due to his physicality, but if he again fails to impress it's Barry time for me given it's the only alternative.

The parts of their game they need to improve are also the areas where Duncan was pretty poor in, namely first touch, footwork, making chances for himself, scoring from range, etc. I guess he could teach them some dark arts and how to get sent off loads of times like.

Think Beto gets the nod for the derby but at some point, Moyes just needs to give Barry a run of games.

Beto isn’t going to improve any further. His limitations are what they are.

Barry has a higher ceiling but needs minutes.

Harry didn't show anything until he was 21 and he had a massive break out season. Drogba did very little until he was 24. Lots of world class strikers break out aged 21-25.

Eh? Duncan had an excellent first touch. He wasn't a dribbler but most target men aren't. He could control and turn with the ball. Check out his goals v Liverpool and Utd. He did also score from outside the box on a number of occasions. He was absolutely a different class of player to Beto and Barry. Did you ever actually watch him play?

I'm not sure everybody see's it like that, it's just we only have a choice between 2 strikers..

With Beto, you know what your getting, he will put a shift in and try and hustle the defence but the bloke certainly has no natural ability.
He's not a player that you can teach ability you only work on what you've got with him..

With Barry, no-one knows yet, so he can't be written off until he's been given a proper run of games..

The derby just might be to early for him, or it could be what wakes him up..

It's like chosing the best dish at McDonald's..

Simple decision atm, its beto. Its not pretty but he has characteristics that get a pretty decent return on goals for minutes played.

I hope at some point we have a more rounded striker or that barry develops into that but instead of throwing him in the deep end (and he hasnt looked like scoring yet) id be picking beto for the foreseeable, despite the misses he will get goals.
