Do you really think a manager earning £3m+ would risk his job/career on favourites?

Come on pal you might like Besic but he's not ready yet and we're a far more compact and better team with Barry in it.
I think a manager would think twice from upsetting the team balance by dropping one of his regulars. He would only do that if he was absolutely sure Besic was ready and he obviously doesn't think he is.

However if he was starting the job I think there's a good chance he would start Besic over Barry.

I think that's what people mean when they talk about favourites. Barry was poor against Spurs but has been good up to then so I doubt that one game will have changed Martinez's mind however if he has another poor game against Chelsea then I think he would be making a mistake not playing Besic in the next game.

If there should only be one holding MF then McCarthy would be the better option as he would have the legs to get back and forth across the pitch more than Barry would.

The increased responsibility might even improve his form as well.

Why not drop McCarthy instead? He's been worse.
McCarthy wasn't dire for the whole of last season as well though and has much more to offer the team. He's started the season slowly but I have no doubt that he'll pick up soon, Barry on the other hand has been crap since coming back from injury in November last year.

Meh...Barry's been sound and McCarthy has been poor. Let's bench the more in form player though. Makes a ton of sense really.

Pipe down. Barry has been good so far this season. Agenda much?

He was ok against Southampton. What other game was he good in? When Watford scored two goals from the area he was supposed to be defending? When we got dominated by Bentaleb and a centreback playing out of position, or when it was men v boys against City? Biggest myth at Everton that Barry is a good player and helps our team. Old, slow, negative, rash in the challenge, sits too deep and quite stupid off the ball. Really really poor player who has become the new Teflon player for some absolutely refusing any valid criticism of him. We struggle to score and have a poor defensive record despite having good players up front and in defence. It's clear the midfield is a huge issue yet people think Barry and McCarthy walk on water. They are two extremely average players which is why we came 11th last year and why we have thrown points away this year as well.

I think both Barry and McCarthy have been pretty average for quite a while now. Probably because they know they won't be dropped too often, I want to see Besic start more.

McCarthy's played worse than Barry...should be dropped first.

Massive fail. Go read it again, in context this time mate

Yes, sorry. I misunderstood what you were saying.

He's been mince

He's been better than McCarthy. I have a feeling Jimmy has been carrying that knock we heard about for a while though. He's not been himself. He's been anonymous, which is not something that can normally be said of him, even if he has a bad game.

Barry is important to us though.
