BANNED FROM FINCH FARM

They ring true with guidance given by clubs youth academies due to the implementation of the EPPP. Every club has tightened EVERYTHING now due to the lifts on restricted access to other clubs.

Indeed. So, with that in mind, why has one guy been singled out, whilst plenty of others can still get into Finch Farm to watch the games?

Why has the club given superfluous reasons for the ban other than merely for safeguarding reasons? Almost like they wanted a "back up" reason in place isn't it?

Why has no complaint been made to the police or some sort of coordinated attempt to ban him from away games as well as Finch Farm? It couldn't possibly be because they don't have a leg to stand on, right? ;)

He attended these games (and all levels of the Everton fan experience) for years - he then starts writing match reports for GOT, and he's banned. Twice.

So, again, coincidence?

The coincidence isn't really a safeguarding issue unless he names U18 players or interacts with them.

He won't be the only person banned. Don't forget, it's private premises. They have the right to refuse admission.

And, I agree with all of you. It's ludicrous, hence I signed up to reply.

Read the OP mate, that's exactly the reason given - contact on Twitter. Except there wasn't any except a routine enquiry about how bad an injury was once.

I'm going on what I know. If the games are played behind closed doors to everyone except people cleared by the FA's Safeguarding Guidance (CRB check for all volunteers involved with children or adults under the age of 18), then fine, because that's a rule that applies to everyone. However, as it stands, Steve has been banned from Finch Farm, and from what I can tell nobody else has at all. Indeed, Elstone knows of this matter personally, which means it isn't a group of people banned.

Add to that, he's been banned before explicitly for posting match reports on GOT. It's blatant what the reasoning is behind this.

I know mate, you misunderstand. I'm disagreeing with the reason given as it CAN'T be a safeguarding issue under FA Guidelines unless the player is Under 18.

And what do you think the reasoning is? Let's see if it's the same as what I think.

I think that club has an overarching suspicion of independent sources of information about the club, ever since the Blue Union interview incident and the cancellation of the AGMs. I think they object to an independently run website of this size and influence, particularly on social media. I think they didn't want coverage of the Academy to be available independently at a much quicker speed than the official site, with the content not being ran through an official editor before publication.

That said, it just seems so ludicrous. To the normal person, the above doesn't seem anywhere near enough of a reason to ban a guy from going games he's been going to for years, but I honestly think there's something seriously wrong with the senior management setup at Everton.

I'm not a whacko conspiracy theorist; I try to look at everything rationally. If you rule out safeguarding as a reason for the ban, which I am doing, as there's nothing to back that up whatsoever and that could have been remedied by a myriad of reasons - like requesting a CRB check, for example - then you have to look at other angles, and apart from Steve shagging Irvine's wife or something there's no other reason I can conclude, unless I'm missing something.

The club should work with GOT, get together with Steve, iron out issues and sort this out like professionals and adults. There was no need whatsoever for this dirty laundry to be aired, but Everton have put themselves in this situation by apparently putting Steve in a position where he had no other option.

It's all so pointless. A stain on the club...

Oh, as an aside, I have nothing to do with GOT really, so it's not in my interest to promote club/website relations, it's just as an actual Evertonian that I'd like the club interact positively with such a rich source of engagement because, basically, I'd like Everton not to suck so badly at PR, as they currently do!

No offence to any PR staff reading this, I appreciate you're hamstrung from higher up, but it's massively frustrating.

I think you're right about them protecting themselves from a potential Blue Union situation, and who can blame them?! They done a lot of damage exposing a lot of truth about the hierarchy.

I also think you're right about te exposure. But think about this: the club only expose what they want exposing, especially about it's assets, I.e. it's players. So, if someone independent is now writing about the youngsters since the introduction of the EPPP then it's potentially harmful to the club. Trust me, he won't be the only one banned.

In my opinion, the club should be getting a site with exposure like yours and others on side, inviting you to meetings, to watch a game at Finch Farm, at Goodison etc. so you can report to your followers how well the club treats the everyday fan. Instead, they're choosing to exclude. That's a shame.

Nor me* Just felt strongly about this that I had to reply.

*except MR, who is an absolute bell!!

Seems like the most logical course of action would be for the club to employ AB to do this work for the OS so that they could take full advantage of his reports. He continues to do what he loves and more traffic is driven to the Everton OS so that we can continue to read his commentaries on the progress of the youth set up. Win win for all.

Of course what do I know?

Virtually word for word what my dad said when he read this ...

Your father is a great great man and is wise beyond his years.

; )

Actually, I tell you what my dad is. He hasn't missed more than 3 home games in around 50 years. He has seen so,many good times, they out-weigh the bad times. His favourite ever player is Alan Ball. He thinks this current side is potentially European quality, he Dosent like Osman, he hates Naismith, and quite likes Tim Howard !
BUT when he read the OP of this.. At my insistence, he was fuming.
He will buy his 3 season tickets come what may.. But the tide is turning.
( just in case you were interested )

I'm always interested in what other Evertonians think, especially those who've followed the club as long as your father has.

Thank you for sharing that.
