Player Valuation: £8m
What does the future hold for Baines? He's too good to be left out, but then so too are Jag, Yobo and Lescott, leaving any one of those players out long term will probably mean they'll leave, so what do we do?

Right back is a problem for us, so should we try and get Jag or Yobo trained for a RB role? I know Yobo has looked awful there in the past but you'd think he'd enjoy the full back role, he likes to get forward and he likes to have a go taking people on, but when purposely given that responsibility he's looked poor.

So what do we do?

Jags has played RB in the past, might be worth trying him there again now his confidence is slightly better... as long as it doesn't mean having to play Pip in the middle of the park

Agreed Yobo likes to get forward and take people on.. and that's precisely why he shouldn't be RB! My heart is in my mouth everytime he starts punting that ball forward and galloping after it.

Park Jo in the middle alongside Lescott. Get Baines out left and train Jags up for RB. He's been awesome in the centre but I think he's got the flexibility and nous to do a great job at RB too.

But its becoming more and more the job of the R/L back to push up and support the midfield so why would that make you more against him doing it?

To be fair, when he does take people on, he does just about get away with it, but its not something a CB should ever be doing really.

Dont you think though the Jags best qualities are those last ditch tackles and blocks? Not really the qualities of a RB, but he can run with the ball, thats something.

Moving Jagielka out of the centre won't work. His game is blocking shots and basically getting his body in the road of anything that moves. You put him on the right, he'd stagnate.

the thing i like about baines is hes willing to get foward so while we have a few games left in the season why not stick him on the left wing! moving pienaar into the middle while osman and arteta are out ...

Thats what I tend to think too. Although it might be worth a go, given he's played there before.

I agree Baines could be used as a left wing, but given the amount of players we are playing out of position in midfield, is it wise to throw in another one to the mix? Also, would Pienaar really be effective in the centre?

hes got to be more effective than carsley and neville... if we were to put pienaar into the center i would go 4-5-1 ...

That's why really.. 'just about getting away with it' isn't what you want from a roving RB. You want someone who has good close ball skill at pace - dribbling ablility and a sweet cross. Yobo has plenty of attributes but these aren't amongst them.

I agree that Jags has an excellent sense for blocking tactics but theres more to his game than that.

Ideally I'd prefer to see a new RB brought in for next season. Meantimes if not Jags Neville is okish there.

Yeah but I mean he just about gets away with it at CB, but its not a CB job to be taking a player head on, but on the wing he should have the qualities to do the job. I agree he doesnt seem to when he's played there, I just find it strange.

When he see Yobo do these mad dashes up field its almost as if he's doing it because he's being held back in defence and wants more of a game.

Baines will be the left back next season. I think because of the niggling ankle injuy he's hand (and had an operation on) Moyes hasnt used him in his tactics. Now that Baines seems fully fit, its a bit late to just throw him in at the deep end.

He's capbable but next season he'll own left back.

i think the question is who to play ? neville on right/left or baines on left?

well the way i see it is that jags has played better in a partnership with lescott.

jags best performances have been rcb and lescott's lcb.

yobo has played rb for us and plays there for nigeria.

based on performances id say yobo is 3rd choice center back but he is to good to be left out the team.so id sacrifice neville rather than baines.the reason being we as a team lack offencive play and i feel baines offers more amunition than mr reliable neville.

the best side of yobos game is his pace awareness and confident passing (well for a cb anyway) i think he slightly lacks more strength than lescott and jags.

which is why id be tempted to play ..
yobo jags lescott baines

i think the thing moyes thinks of with ...neville yobo jags lescott...is that just like the midfeild its interchangeable.all 4 players can be moved around in an instant.
but is this necessary in defence ?

perhaps the answer is in fact that we should play with wing backs.
let the cb's defend , freeing up the wing backs to bomb forward and getting width , allowing the midfeild the freedom to concentrate on breaking down play and offencive play.

actually i really like the look of both those line ups.
id rather have 5 defenders with 2 attacking (positive)than 5 midfeilders with 2 defending (negative).

Once baines is fully fit, i think he'll play most games at left back. Also i think we should just let the three lads at CB fight it out for who plays. If you have a bad game your out an one of the others come in. Keeps them all on their toe's. An if baines gets injured, then lescott can fit right in.

As for RB, hibbert has not let us down to often when played their this season. Nor has neville all his critisism come when playing in the middle. So theirs know need to go spending money on a new RB when thiers other areas we need to strengthen first.

The defence is the one place most people are happy with, so no need to go changing it to much.
