We weren’t exactly good last season. People go on about the run at the end, but Europe was absolutely attainable (finished 3 points outside it) and as usual we fell short and beating a few of the bigger teams doesn’t make up for that.

Silva wasn’t exactly great at Watford and him nosediving there and also twice here suggests to me that our interest didn’t play the huge part in Watford’s misfortunes last season as people tried to make out. Also making a relegated team play better but still actually being relegated isn’t impressive to me.

Yes we’ve had a lot of injuries but our treatment room isn’t even nearly the most full in the league and our problems started long before the injuries.
Can you imagine us playing EL games this season.

They go hand in hand.

Silva goes ballistic after the BHA decision, gets a fine... and a penalty against Spurs.

You cannot keep accepting poor decisions. This is a vile business now and without a bit of moaning and petulance when required, you get walked all over and the bad luck continues.

Pretty sure it’s bad leadership and management. dressing it up as bad luck gives the ‘powers that be’ an excuse they don’t deserve.
It’s bad choices by failing management, failing recruitment and a failing coach. I don’t hate them as I think they all want to be out of this malaise, but by Christ they make it difficult.

In my opinion it's all down to the formation and tactics, so management is where it lies. Our current crop of attacking players is better than we've ever had in the league. There is so much pace and ability but it's being rendered pointless because of our possession based tactics.

I've said the same myself mate. We ourselves actually destroy our own strength which is pace. We should be hitting teams on the break like Leicester did to win the league. I'm not saying we would be as good as that but a similar style would suit us down to the ground.
A good Manager would have these players loving their football, bang bang bang goal, as quick as that

Still think the tactics are what has done us.

We're starting to loosen up, but why did we think it was sound to play total crab football for the first 3 months? Ominously, what is concerning is our three wins have came against
  • Watford - Who only won for the first time yesterday
  • Wolves - Who had a European hangover, and struggled like mad
  • West Ham - In Awful Form
We havent upset the applecart, at all, and our Away form is truly woeful.

Football is an easy game score more than you concede and everything is golden. No point moaning about VAR if we have had loads of shots before and we haven't scored. And in the same token learn how to defend corners and we would have loads more points.

Even if you have been given a load of rubbish players, as a coach you need to get on the training pitch and help them to score and help them learn how to defend. If your preferred zonal marking isn't helping the players, switch until you have worked on it enough that it isn't a liability.

Last minute own goal? Yeah that’s bad luck.

Controversial red card whilst winning 2-1 but lose 3-2? Yeah that’s bad luck

Having a board who believe staying in the premier league is an achievement and top half finish is successful ? No that’s just atrocious levels of ambition by people who only want to line their pockets for 3 decades

“But for two reffing decisions, we’d be sound”

...... apart from the fact we’ve been pants in all but one game all season.

We’re not creating chances - that’s a problem. It’s also why we’re grasping at straws with half-shouts for pens.

Defensively we’re OK (set pieces aside). Not terrible, not solid but it’s not the first place I’d focus on.

I don’t think Silva is good enough but I also don’t think he’s the only problem. The players aren’t as good as many think they are. The club is dying for some direction and leadership, we’ve clearly been criminally mismanaged in the last few years and Brands, Moshiri and Bill are all to blame for that.

So yes, with a bit more luck we could be further up the table - but that would be papering over the cracks that, as we lie in 17th, are now blindingly obvious.
