In fairness Chaz, we have no idea what the club (EFC) have been doing - we may well have set Witsel a deadline.
All I am certain on is that we will have other targets lined up.
It may be a case that we now go all out to get Mata, and maybe RK isn't as fussed about a CM. As I've said numerous times, I think he's now focusing on overhauling the attacking set-up a bit - I don't think he likes what he was left with e.g. a load of similar players.
Not saying he's wanting to get rid of everybody, far from it, though.

Player wants a move, got limnked with some teams he will never ever go too (Madrid etc) and absolutely no chance on earth he will stay in the Championship for a season - the bloke couldn't be arsed playing for a team last season because it was struggling, don't want him but if i was a betting man and the odds where decent on him coming here it'd be worth a punt - similar to the other signings we are in the process of making - it's one that would have gone udner the radar etc
For what it's worth i don't like or rate the player at all, but when he wants he is a cracking player - just he doesn't want to 95% of the time, typ[e of signing that Koeman may think he can get consistancy out of (see Bolasie for that) plus we'd probably be able to conclude it 'relatively' quickly due to Newcastle being in the championship and the player wanting to jump ship etc

Exactly. If Everton have waited for him, which we clearly haven't, then that would be our problem.
Shame though. He's the one I wanted but reckon it was too much of an ask. Like a level of player we couldn't attract right now.

So a few people told me that his agent was negotiating last week and moving the demands slightly... It done my head in when i was told because i was like why don't we tell him where to go now, its dragged on too long. I think everyone knows thats my feeling on it, no matter how much id like him at the club.
I have read that quote very much as, "right these are my demands if you don't accept them i am staying this year". Am sound with that, it happens a lot.
am not sound with how long its dragging on now. put a fork in it, its done tell him this is the offer if he doesn't sign it then move on.
I still think Koeman will go for another CM, imo our current quota doesnt do what he wants.

He is at a club, we have bid, he has sounded out bigger clubs and seen an interest from Napoli & Juve (who wouldnt choose juve over us). These 2 teams can't match our bid so Witsel has took it in his own hands and will wait to move to Juve on a free.
for what its worth iv said i dont really rate him from day one, so im not htat bothered.
What does make me think though is, surely he must of asked Lukaku about what its like at everton, he musnt of given us a very glowing reference. Do you think he might of said "nah, il be off this summer so i wouldnt go to everton if i were you"

The saga (maybe sadly) isn't over mate, with this comment Witsel is basically trying to pressure Zenit into selling for a cheaper fee to avoid losing him for nowt - it's down to if Zenit call that bluff now, trust me - if he has any brain at all he will NOT want to play a season running down his contract at Zenit as 100% the fans will turn massively against him and for a black player it will be an absolute nightmare season for him with the entire fanbase against him.

Plus, staying to see out his contract gets him and his agent a larger signing on fee wherever he goes next year.

IN my opinion anyway, the club shoudl just move onto someone else, try get Strootman, Kovacic, Carvalho by making a really serious offer to both club and player and not fannying about.
Witsel is good but in no way shape or form is he good enough to have an offer ont he table for the best part of two months waiting for him to make his mind up.
Pull out, let him have a choice between sitting at Zenit, lettign Zenit lower their price, or come crawling back to us when the option is sitting getting pelters week in week out from the Zenit fans
