Transfer Rumour Axel Witsel

But, isn't the point that he is determined to play for Juve...not Everton.
I don't expect every player to have a burning ambition to play for Everton, but it helps if they obviously don't want to do so.
TBF I think it has been clear for a while what his wishes are.

They love him at Zenit though. Fans, the club, all of them.

Plus, staying to see out his contract gets him and his agent a larger signing on fee wherever he goes next year.

Mate he's really popular amongst the majority of the fanbase, still gets dogs off the Ultra's though - but all black players do.

But one thing i know, if a player chooses to sit out a contract and cost the club 25m (in this case) then they will turn against him massively - a lot of the fans regard anything that costs the club a large amoount of money as a personal afront to themselves

he will be the most unpopular player in St Petes by a country mile if he sits this contract out

Fair enough, the lad has his heart set on Juve and Italy. Hopefully in a years time that move is still an option to him (things change in football quickly). Either way leaving on a free gives him plenty of options.

If staying at Zenit was his second choice after Juventus (which he's proven with his comments here) then what was the actual point of him agreeing terms with us? He's wasted his and our time.

This whole thing is very odd and clearly the board have realised that these 'top' targets aren't actually coming through the door.

So a few people told me that his agent was negotiating last week and moving the demands slightly... It done my head in when i was told because i was like why don't we tell him where to go now, its dragged on too long. I think everyone knows thats my feeling on it, no matter how much id like him at the club.

I have read that quote very much as, "right these are my demands if you don't accept them i am staying this year". Am sound with that, it happens a lot.

am not sound with how long its dragging on now. put a fork in it, its done tell him this is the offer if he doesn't sign it then move on.

I still think Koeman will go for another CM, imo our current quota doesnt do what he wants.

Witsel fits the bill for us in that he adds quality in defence and attack and we sorely lack that presence in midfield.

However, we may now target for example, fully, a player like Mata to come in a more advanced position and decide to move Barkley back.

I'm not sure if it ever was mate - I think that we are his second choice but he wants big money to take that second choice for the next three to four years rather than wait and try and push a move to Juve.

Again, it makes complete sense.

Ultimately, we haven't got the draw of these clubs without having any European football.

If he chooses to run down his contract will they? They will turn against him.

Seemingly he has different representatives in different countries. Agents are to blame here - they are playing the field.

How do you know we haven't offered him the big money mate? He agreed to our offer by all accounts but just didn't commit to signing on the dotted line.

Seems to me that he's so keen on Juve he'd rather wait at Zenit for another year, which puts his preference at Juve - Zenit - Everton rather than Juve - Everton - Zenit as was strongly suggested.

Everton have done everything to get this over the line. Agreement with his club, his agent & the player himself in terms of package.

Ultimately it appears his head has been turned and he no longer fancies us. Fair enough - we offer nothing aside being a project with ambition.

It looks like it's time to move on unless he has a last minute change of heart. I am surprised though, he's consulted with Lukaku & Mirallas and I'm sure they've talked the Club up.

Depends if he plays well and they win stuff.

Say if Stones (an example) has a year left in his contract and chooses to run down his contract to join Citch next summer. Will you clap clap clap? Maybe you would but I think most fans won't.

Costing the club £25m for not leaving before the transfer deadline this guy.

Not every situation is the same.
