Game was over at 0-1. No desire or extra effort exerted.

Bernard played in a perfect ball and Tosun and DCL just sat there and watched it go by.

On 86 mins ?.....we get chances like that every game sums the season up .
ANY decent striker thrives on them , and still some say its not a priority position.

Only just read this so apologies for being late to the party.

I take issue with the VVD remark; somewhere in the annals you’ll find me making mention of this very issue regarding his manhandling of players during his Southampton days. To my mind he lacked pace, which I put down to his apparent weight problem at the time, so he had to resort to ‘decking’ opponents. I remarked that a move to RS would place him more under the spotlight as he seemed to be getting away with it at the time, although we’re all aware of the twelfth man advantage when they play at the pit.

To be fair, they seem to have addressed his weight issues, and he no longer has to resort to wrestling opponents to the floor, probably due to the presence of better players around him so that he has relatively less defending to do.

However, unlike of the rest of footballing world, I’ve yet to see convincing evidence of his alleged ‘blistering’ pace: the last e.g. was provided by Sky who showed him catching up with Willian on a break, after he’d gone forwards for a corner.
But if you watch the clip, Willian was in two minds as he approached the goal, leading him to slow down and the waddling VVD to make ground on him. I’m not convinced.

His positioning for crosses is questionable: Arsenal should have buried his last misreading of the flight of the ball, but we all know the story there. He seems to be getting away with murder IMHO.

Okay, he’s not the worst of defenders, but seventy odd millions worth? I very much doubt it.
