Perhaps im a bit of a dreamer but id like to see another player in the same age bracket.

I think its very exciting to build a squad like this and looking at the players comments they do too. One more addition and we could have the best u23 quartet in Europe...under Martinez.

Someone like Mertens would have been ideal.

Badly, badly need a new Pienaar. Showed when he came on against Swansea last season how much we miss him, he's the hardest player to replace in my opinion out of any players we've had during the last 15+ years.
I find it amazing how highly thought of pienaar is by some of our fans

Now don't get me wrong he's technically a very good/clever player
But massively overrated IMO
He would score about 3 goals a season not sure about assists but I doubt he ever got double figures
Was slow lightweight constantly got bullied and hardly ever put a decent cross in
I know he wasn't an out an out winger but he did play wide

To some people as long as him and Baines did a few nice one twos it was happy days
Some people would be quite happy to see them 2 down our left when there 40

The guy was a bottler
Went to Dortmund and couldn't handle the pressure
Then left us for Spurs who at time were a champions league team and soon came back to us with his tail between his legs

Back to a team that at the time were happy to finish 7 and get beat in cup semi finals
His level sadly

He was basically the assister of the assister if that makes sense. Also knew how to draw fouls which slowed the game down if needed. Was he perfect? No. But his understanding with Baines was sublime a lot of the time.

Agreed.

Baines made him seem better than he was.

Most will say Yarmalenko and he is the obvious candidate though I am not sure he's the sort of playmaker who would be ideal.

The two names from left field who have impressed are Teixera from Liverpool or Ritchie from Bournemouth. I think both would suit our system very nicely.

One of the things the club is very good at is identifying talent. Our recruitment if a bit slow has always been very good.

I can only hope we are being patient to get the right player in. I read in the Echo the other day we went to Monaco to get Martial but they abled out of the deal and gave us Traore at the last minute. Imagine if they hadn't and we'd have ended up with Martial 2 years ago?

We could well end up with a similarly obscure player we'd not heard of.
