atmosphere at goodison

I believe that people having no money and being down about Everton in the early part of the season played a part, towards the end when we were boss it picked up.

Did somebody say singing section??

ISNT MODERN FOOTBALL BOSS?

I am getting a bit bored of atmosphere threads on here tbh, but everytime there is one there is snipe from you over the singing sections.

Singing Sections, ie a place in the gound where like minded fans congregate to sing, has been a part of Goodison for decades. It was the advent of reserved seating, a consequence of the increase in attendance at Goodison in the mid 90s that stopped it.

The singing sections are reaction AGAINST the modern football fan culture of sitting and only singing some standard when there's a goal or the tannoy plays Grand old Team.

It doesn't bother me if you wish to sit down and not sing, you pay your money you can do what you want, but it does bother me when you have a go at others with little digs just because they wish to get behind Everton in the manner that many thousands of Evertonians have done throughout the decades.

My family go back to before the the first world war for supporting Everton, although the oldest I have spoke to was my Grandad who went from the 20s. I can reassure you there were was singing at the match then too. 70+ years before Sky. Fans would also congregate under St Luke's previous to then to sing as well. So can you update your assertions on the concept of singing sections please?

Could you please rewrite that post with the accompanying tune at the top and maybe a youtube instrumental ?

One of those bouncing balls with the lyrics would be grand.

No, its what lower league teams who have a brass band and a drum set have.

Everton have had singing sections for decades, and both the trialled ones this season and the previous ones throughout the years have never had brass bands or drummers so there is absolutely no connection to Everton with your argument.

If Everton's current singing section had brass bands and drummers then yes I would agree with you, but it doesn't.

Singing section, to get everyone to sing? We'll have a toilet section next, a load of old men in anoraks eating werthers originals encouraging you to go the toilet.

Listen lad, your trying to do something so fairplay, but i think the idea of singing sections is smalltime.

The one thing about Goodison is its spontaneous as atmosphere's in football should be - the idea of having sections dedicated to singing just doesnt sit well with me, but if yous are doing it, yous are doing it so there we go.

Smalltime? So by that argument I take it you're bigtime if you dont sing? I dont go along with the word smalltime it sounds too gloryseeker ish.

Back on topic though, a singing section is not an ultra section, it allow spontaneity to happen. The reserved seating prevents spontaneity. It's natural for a number of people to sing more at the game but if you've got a family next to you it doesn't happen.

Do you think that during terracing Everton's support was 'smalltime' and unnatural? It's the exact same principal as then.

I do sing mate, a lot, but not because i'm in a certain section but because I want to, regardless of my comments and what I think, there are lids who are doing it, so what does I say matter?
