It should perhaps be pointed out here that Hamilton was talking absolute, grade-A wham when he wrote that. The following post-conquest English or British monarchs were deposed (as in removed rather than defeated and killed on the battlefield):

Edward II (relatively peacefully)
Richard II (relatively peacefully)
Henry VI (twice, though with considerable violence both times)
Jane
Charles I (after a trial, albeit with considerable violence beforehand)
James II (peacefully here but with violence in Ireland)
Edward VIII

There is rather more evidence that our system for removing terrible heads of state works better than this impeachment nonsense; even the convoluted means by which popes are deposed has actually managed to depose them.

Off topic but always felt extremely sorry for Jane Grey, from the limited amounts I read her parents sounded awful.
