Transfer Rumour Ashley Young

His age isn’t irrelevant at all because a season is 38 games long, not 90 minutes long. It’s physically impossible for him to be able to go on forever. Him playing a lot last season has nothing to do with it, Distin was the example I used above, he played 33 games in 2013/14 and then the next season was binned off after about 4 games because his legs had gone. It can happen in a split second with players of his age. It is an issue that we need to at least be aware of.

God rest hs soul, but Gary Speed played a season at 37 for Bolton in the PL and scored 8 goals from the centre of midfield playing every match. They finished 7th.

If he is fit enough, we may squeeze a season more out of him. If not we'll know pretty quickly and will hopefully have signed other options too.

I get what you are saying though, it is certainly a gamble, but even having an experienced leader around the dressing room will be positive..

This signing on its own merits - however dubious - could have been palatable had it been made by a brand new regime. But it's brought to you by the very same people who brought the club to its knees.

We know it's happening because we are skint. But when the people who skint us are, effectively, making that justification, it's impossible to swallow on its own merits.
By making signings exactly like this with zero chance of getting any of the money back.

Young actually had a good season, it not a bad signing by itself. Decent dead ball delivery. The problem is that it’s probably as good as it gets
