Transfer Rumour Ashley Young

The reason for the uproar is less about Young and more about the message this sends regarding the rest of our transfers this summer, we've got little money and this reality check is also a fair reason to be angry at the state of our club and those responsible for running it. In isolation the signing of Young isn't bad, but we shouldn't be in this position. It's a disgrace.

That is it plus well is the first transfer we have made all of us still desperate to get goals in this team.

Yup, exactly. The fact we're in a position where we need to consider this sort of signing is a result of years and years of mistakes being made, but it doesn't mean the signing of Young itself is a mistake.

The fact that we are debating the merits of signing a 38 year old who can’t get a game at Aston Villa tells you all you need to know about the stewardship of the club under Bill’s watch.
All i ever get in my head is his stupid line we have had good times.
Young is a good signing. You ask any blue what our problem areas are and they don't exclusively say the forward areas. We have a real weakness at LB so bringing in Young on a free transfer works perfectly fine (especially given he still started 22 games last season aged 37). If he's the only signing we make, maybe then we can panic but it sorts out one problem area, allowing us to focus on the rest
Does it sort out one problem area is still questions on if he can perfrom at a high level. Might have done ok last season but is another year older now.
Lad played 29 games for 7th placed Villa last season and we currently have Mykolenko who whilst started brightly clearly isnt the answer at LB.

We have a limited budget and need a CF, RW, CB, LB & replacement for Davies and Gordon.

The odd deal like Young unfortunately needs to be done in our situation.

Crying about it or bemoaning the fact we sold some kid to Chelsea who no one even knew existed until a few days ago isn't going to magically change the clubs current situation.

Whilst he's an arl fella he will do a steady job for 12 months until we can afford a longer term option.

Common sense needs to prevail but unfortunately it won't stop some from throwing a tantrum and calling for heads to roll whilst ignoring the financial situation.
I will if this is just a short term the ln fine still have questions on why we have go for him. Just looks like what we have done for years not having a plan at fb left baines and coleman in for years, and did not plan for the long term. If he is here to cover lb for the season fine but i want to see us scouting for a starting lb the season after. Is this short term thinking got us in this mess

17 year old prospect out the door, pensioner replaces him is bottom tier messaging.

I think when we are rumoured to be hawking around young players for sale then the situation is serious and as you say years of mistakes coming home to roost

Digne actually started fewer games for Villa than Young did last season. I imagine they'd be desperate for someone to take his huge wages off the bill, but it's not something we should do.
Picking up older pro's on free's for a season or two seems like good business, to plug a few gaps like. We're a patchwork side, and Dyche wants grafters with a bit of snide. Got to find a player to rotate with Cal-Lewin to lead the line.

If we aren’t buying any superstars in the areas he can cover (which we aren’t) then at a massive stretch, if low wages for 1 year, then maybe it starts to look slightly less idiotic.

Question is whether it’s better having Young in for 5 matches at LB if Myko gets a knock, or Godfrey (who is already on the payroll)? The start of the whole problem is that the first choice LB is so weak, and that doesn’t get solved by this move.

Urrgh. Whatever.
