ive just read this article....

http://football-forever.com/home/?p=38

and it does make a very valid point.
everton wanted , everton could have had , everton waited , everton will miss out or pay more.
if e goes elswhere then the club only has themselves to blame.

i do think we will still sign 1 or 2 good players to enhance the squad but ive got a sinking feeling the world class superster we are all hoping for is going to elude us.

Have you seen him play at all? Ever? Once? He plays either as a supporting striker or on the side of the midfield, how is that at all like putting Maradona at left back?

i thought arshavin could play either wing , attacking mid , or upfront , in the hole or as an out and out striker.

imo arteta cahill and kanchelskis all in 1 player.

BLOODY SIGN HIM ALREADY !!!!:D

Spending big time on a player to make him play in a more discret position is a good way to throw your money into the street.

sure he can play on the wings, but will he have the same devastating effect? Doubt it.

I've seen on a few occasions, actually. I've seen in a 2006 WC Qual Portugal vs Russia (7-1) and a Russia vs Portugal (0-0), I've seen him playing for Zenit vs Guimaraes (2-1 for the russians after a clean disallowed goal and two clear penaltys not spotes by the ref for guimaraes), I've seen him in this season Uefa Cup final, and in the Euro.

So I've seen for a period of 4 years, and apart from this season, he never looked impressive.

Well then you've certainly seen more of him than me. But when I have seen him, hes looked the perfect part in all those roles hes played.

I read that interview in AS today. Every player interviewed by the Spanish press is reported as expressing a preference for La Liga (not primera liga ffs). I'm not sure if they invent it or the players' agents tell them to say it. I wouldn't read too much in to it, although in the case of some players it will be true. He'll probably be interviewed by 'Gazzetta Dello Sport' next week and say it's always been his dream to play in Italy.
The report also mentions Shalke as one of the German teams interested, which may be why they're haggling over the 6 million asking price for Engelaar. Not because they're skint as some have suggested.

Errr right, thats why he won russian player of the year 3 years ago, and has hogged the left hand touch line practically all his career, cutting inside and either hitting it or playing someone in. He is versatile, can play on either the left, right or straight down the middle just behind the striker, but he has pace and can take players on which is ideal for a winger. Just look at his performance against holland, on the wings he is more influential as he is able to use that pace and get in behind or set up an attack. You obviously must have been watching the wrong player if playing arshavin on the left is like "playing maradonna at left back" because that is absolute rubbish.

Oh I forgot, over there in the UK you like to have skillful players on the wings and big tall walls in the middle of the park. ( the last skillful center midfield was Hoddle and even him wasn't regarded for the true great player he was).

I wonder if Arteta is a real winger, I'd say he is a much better attacking midfield, but instead we get to see Cahill doing the thing. Sure Cahill can score and he is powerful, but can he open defences with a smart pass?

Arshavin "fell" on the wings against holland, he didn't play on the wings. He roamed in a free role function, falling on the wings to create space. Make him hug the line and he'll be less effective.

He was russian footbaler of the year in 2006. For such an outstanding talent, being only once the footbaler of the year and playing all his life in russia is something to give a thought.

But as I said, apart from this season, he never impressed me.

What about gazza? but i get what your saying. Maybe this is were we go wrong. Skillfull wingers an hard takeling midfielders. Food for thought.

The best performance I have seen him was against Bayer Leverkusen.... when he played on the wing. (y) A Zenit fan said the same on here.

Russia played a bit similair to the Dutch system, that saw them so easily progress through the group stages. Would be great if Everton had the option to do the same. 4-2-3-1 with Fernandes (hopefully) and Huddlestone/Fellaini/Cana as defensive midfielders with excellent passing abillities. The three midfielders in front of them given the freedom of going forward and support Yakubu anyway they can. Think in that role it wouldn't really matter on what side Arshavin would be playing. Use the wings if possible, but don't play with out and out wingers.

I haven't seen him as much as you Sotnas (or is it Santos?:)), I've only seen him this season. I agree that against Holland he seemed to be playing a free role from a basic inside forward role. Could it be that he started out as a more authentic winger due to his pace and ability, but gradually started to impose his personality. Maybe in a similar vein to Figo. When he first started at Barcelona he seemed to hug the touchline a lot more but dveloped into the the more classic number ten (A much more defined role in latin countries than in England), popping up all over the place in the final third. As I say, I'm only speculating as I didn't see the lad before this season.

Hes actaully been impressive for about 5 years, just no one picked up on it until our match against Zenit. His natural position is down the wings, thats where he plays for Zenit, he can play off the striker, but...well...doesnt. Being a winger is his best position. £15 million would be money well spent.
