Arshavin and Hleb

It's looked doubtful for some time that Arshavin would come. According to some, he's on £50k a week at Zenit, so unless he was happy to get a salary decrease, then it was always unlikely that we would get him. Maybe when he voiced his like of Everton, he thought we were like the Geordies and the type of club that blows absurd amounts of money on any player that turns up at the club.

He did look promising last night, though.

i don't get the negative stuff and cos we are evertonians stuff.............leave that [Poor language removed] for the citeh fans, it's their saying and they can keep it. we've been through [Poor language removed] times and for me the 80's still feel like yesterday (a glimpse in my wardrobe will make it seem like they are here today),
weve been through the worst and we are out the other side, we've done it on a budget and for me i see a time in the not so distant future when those that have weighed in heavily will go bang, LEEDS were the first and tbh i'm suprised no others have followed yet, we aren't in that group and for that i am glad, when finally the money stops talking a lot will be walking, off to the next overinflated league to pamper their ego's, and who'll be there to stroll on through with their team of non-household names, full of skill and craftsmanship, to take their rightfull place at the top of the tree.
some teams will never suffer that plummet, but there are plenty who kid theirselves that they wont.
the day isn't far away when the kopites will be hanging themselves on the banks of the royal blue mersey and the chelski lot will be swinging from putney bridge.
so lets start this season full of optimism and for once lets make some noise and SING !!!

On the same day that Barcelona announce that they are in talks to sign Alexander Helb, Arsenal are linked with a 10 million move for Arshavin. As much as I would love him to come to us, it looks like the bigger teams are now starting to make their interest known. (n)

thats the only thing that worries me slightly at the moment.
other clubs are making soundbites and moving for players.

but to be fair there hasnt been a lot of activity in the market for any clubs.it just seems like it becouse of the media frenzy to fill there papers websites and 24 hour tv with bs to keep us hooked.

it is a bit odd though how moyes mentioned that he wanted players in early and that nobody is none the wiser who the cub is gonna go for.

i wouldnt be surprised though that deals are already in the pipeline to be signed up and completed. if say we are after arshavin , then why would we wait till he has a blinder at the euro's and ends up going for a higher fee and for higher wages becouse more clubs become aware/intrested of him ?

put it this way , if he isnt already close to signing he never will.
he will end up in italy is my bet.

Put yourself in Arshavin (and his agent and Zenit)'s position. There is no rush to sign before his first Euro match. There was always upside that he would have a game like he did yesterday. For them it was a no lose situation to wait.

Maybe that performance will cost us an extra 2 Mil plus 5k/week in wages. Fair enough, I say. We don't need 5 more players, we just need 1 or 2 expensive ones.

With 4 midfielders with first team experience (not including Neville who will hopefully be right back next season), i'd say we probably need more than just the 1 or 2.

Maybe that's true. But for this year in particular, I'd take quality over quantity. Arshavin + Fernandes really should be enough, right? And we should have the budget for both...

Don't get me wrong, Jags and Baines and Pienaar etc... are all great pickups, and came at the right time. I just think the makeup we have already doesn't scream for a bunch more 2-5 mil players... I just don't see that many holes to fill.

An expensive price tag does not a good player make :)

Infact our cheaper players are the real gems in our team.

Lescott wasnt that cheap for a player in the championship! But the rest are true, Jagielka, Cahill, Arteta, Howard...

We do need more midfielders but we also have 2 absolute top quality kids coming through in midfield, Gosling and Rodwell, so another 2 top quality mid. players might do it

Spot on.

I think Moyes, on the budget he's had, has done extremely well regarding the value he gets for the money.
