Are we in a relegation battle right now?

Are we relegationally challenged?

  • No, too early in season, over 38 games there will be at least 3 crapper teams

Kind of backs up my point, there’s enough dross below us to see us to safety imo
True but even then we HAVE to be winning games like yesterdays. What makes it worse is we were at home but still clearly second best.

Since Allardyce has taken over, we have been lucky to take anything away from any of the games bar Swansea and Huddersfield at home.

I agree, we should be turning over 2nd bottom at home. I thought he’d steadied the ship and at least made us hard to beat but it seems to have gone out the window already. We'll win games because we have players with the quality to score something out of nothing, but there’s no consistency anywhere.

The only saving grace from yesterday was most teams below us dropped points.

Having watched Brighton lose 4-0 at home and playing better football than I’ve seen Everton play all season then I’ve got to say we are in with a shout of going down. Fat Sams brand of football is the worst being played in this league at present.

Think you just summed up why we're almost certain to stay up, while others are more at risk. We didn't play great against Chelsea at home, didn't have a shot on target, yet got 1 point that took us closer to safety. Brighton played 'better football' according to you, yet got 0 points to show for it and ended up 4 goals worse off.

It can't be ignored how poor we've become but even getting a point out of yesterday shows that we at least have something in this side that can battle to rescue a point when playing poorly. Other teams simply don't have that and with 28 points on the board, we would only need another 1 or 2 wins, plus a few of those awful displays that earn us a point to survive. There are numerous teams below us who can't get a point when in that situation and are 6 or 7 points worse off than us.

Not excusing how dire the situation is that we're having to view 38-40 points as a positive, but that is where we are unfortunately.

That's exactly what I said yesterday after the game. I do believe we will stay up but it will go right to the wire on current form. All the people making the argument that there are so many teams below us means we won't get relegated really need to take a look at our remaining fixtures. Unless our form drastically changes its going to be a struggle to pick up the 10-12 points we need. For those that think we are safe I'd love them to tell me were all these points are coming from

And that will continue to happen mate. We aren't the worse team out there but we need to start believing that, starting by setting up to beat some of the poorer ones, rather than setting up to not lose to them which is happening at the moment.

The theme to yesterday's game started on Boxing day when we basically conceded territory before even kicking a ball, despite the fact that they hadn't won a game since August. That game, which they totally dominated and were very unlucky to only draw, was still fresh in their players minds so they went into yesterdays game full of confidence.

We are not in a relegation battle, but Big Bung Sam would like us to be then he can be the hero who saves us and justify
his unnecessary appointment

Without a shadow of doubt, (in my humble opinion), we are in a relegation dog fight. I am very concerned, because Everton has such a soft underbelly and loser mentality, that I fear the worst.

This is one of the most confusing things about this season, if we are this bad how bad are the rest? Weird season. How Martinez managed to do even worse than this is mind blowing.
In his sacking season Martinez was on 32 points after 24 games but was 11th, we'd scored 45 goals (26 now), we stayed 11th and picked up 15 more points from 14 games.
