This is true.

We also pay more to agents which should tip things in our favour with free agents.

Stoke have spent more over the last four years in total than we do but that's entirely because of their large transfer fees making up for their lower wages and agent fees. A free agent all other things being equal will always choose us over stoke.

Mind we lost N'Zonzi to stoke but that was because we only wanted to loan and they were willing to buy, a player in contract is more likely to end up there because they spend money on transfer fees and we don't.
