Are Everton fans fickle?

Just noticed that section in the main part of the home page and just thought id see what the consensus is. Personally, i can understand the thrust of the argument that there are some right bloody lot of moaners out there and some other Everton forums are ripe with angry posters ready to rip into the club if any performance/result on the pitch is not satisfactory or there is an issue associated with the club that angers some fans. Thing is, that is probably the same with most supporters.

What i will say is that i also think Evertonians have not been given the credit they have deserved over the years. Man City and Newcastle, for example, always seem to get tagged as great supporters who have suffered over the years but remained loyal through thick and thin. I think much the same can be said for us. The RS have largely eclipsed us over the years yet through all this, the relegation battles, the disappointment of losing top players and the pain of having to live cheek by jowl to celebrating RS fans after the European Cup win in 2005, we have a hardcore support of 35-40k who turn up every other week to follow the side through thick and thin (not to mention an impressive away following that regularly takes up its full allocation).

Guess what the thrust of all this waffle is maybe we should give ourselves a pat on the back more often. Man City and Newcastle supporters do and tbh, we have at least equalled them in terms of unquestioned backing of our team over the past few years.

Stu I have been going to Goodison since 1958 and while we have a great set of supporters lie all teams we have our share of complainers,I remember late 60s early seventies the kick round before the match a player called Humphries kicked it over the bar and a guy by me in the street end started screaming at him sadly this was not a one off and it still happens now,but the most fickle with out doubt are the gobshites ask Houlier(n)

Don't know about fickle but we've certainly got our share of moaners.
I never understand the logic of shouting abuse at a player when he's not playing that well. It's hardly going to lift his confidence is it?
There's a guy who sits a few rows behind me and one of these days I am really going to lamp him one if he shouts 'Hibbert, you're [Poor language removed] [Poor language removed]' (even when he's warming up before the match) one more time.
I don't like violence but this is one guy I would like to clobber with a big stick.

The term fickle was aimed at those who turn on the team when its down and out. Our record so far this year is championship standard, we are going through a rough patch but rather than understand that these things happen some find it far easier to attack players without thought or consideration. You get them at the match as well, championship winning teams being ripped apart by some one some where................thats fickle

All fans are fickle! Just like people we are selfish by nature. If we get relegated next season we will all think Moyes is [Poor language removed] and Kenwright is a miser! Although they will still be the same people they are this season.

Some fans seem to press the emergency button a little to early though, amd are unable to see the bigger picture, every club has them.

You're right, mate. We've all got them. The bigger the support, the more of the fickle variety you're gonna have. A fact of fitba' life unfortunately.
