Apple iPhone iOS 14. DON’T DO IT!!!!!!

Another Apple con trick
Didn't they get caught slowing old phones down, like the 6 and 7, so people go out and upgrade.
Dirty dogs, the kopites of the phone world.
Worst thing I ever did was buy an iPhone
They were slowing down phones due to the fact that batteries degrade over time. As they degrade there is a chance of the phone shutting down when the phone is having to do lots of things at once. This problem becomes even bigger when you have new OS' released which are designed for newer, more powerful phones with quicker chips. Samsung and other manufacturers do exactly the same thing.

Two things that they did badly though was:

1. They didn't make it clear enough that this was happening which lead to all the conspiracy theories. Apple have since settled a court case apologising for that and have also put in a feature in settings where you can turn off the slowdown if you want to.

2. They make it a hassle to change the battery which would solve the issue. They did at least make this process cheaper eventually but again they could have and should have done better. This will increasingly be an issue with high end phones though as they want them to be completely waterproof.

I prefer Windows.

But.... my Macbook Air is as fast now, after 8 years as it was on day one.

In that time I've had to buy a few new Windows PCs...

Buying multiple pc's in an 8 year period of time because they keep dying suggests you're doing something horribly wrong with them !

Not really.

Used extensively and;
  • For most desktop PCs, you can expect a minimum three-year lifespan. However, most computers survive five to eight years, depending on the upgrading components.

Anyone used a Caterpillar phone?

Only ever seen one, but it was getting full signal where no other phone was getting any. Looked well built too.

I have a Toshiba that's a couple of years old running Windows 10, but I always use my 11 year old Mac. It's from the time when you could actually open them up and do your own upgrades etc. The Toshiba was supposed to be a replacement but I just have it in reserve for when my Macbook eventually dies on me. Now I've said that, I think we both know what's going to happen pretty soon :D

That definitely isn't the case. The 3 year lifespan that is. Unless its a cheap brand not buying parts from the same three places in Asia as everyone else.

Some of the internal parts in Apple Mac's are used in Windows and/or Chrome based desktops and laptops.

Desktop PC and laptops should be grand for at least 6 years. Very many last longer.

What kills them sooner is folk not looking after windows properly. Or not knowing how to. This causes degradation to the hardware. For example hard drives being abused by MS windows or by memory leaking cause slowing down and eventually the death of the memory.

Many of the companies I worked in and worked IT our Pcs were only changed out when our newer software would not work on Windows or if Windows upgraded too much rendering the legacy version useless.
