Yeah same, it was nice to know what she was singing but tone wise it's a pretty grim song!Great band, much prefer the Icelandic version of Birthday though.

That Gyres song only made No.111 on the main chart, one of a very few times I actually see a song chart that low and agree with the public.Oh yes, I remember seeing on YouTube a 1985 Christmas Special and had “Listen Like Thieves” by INXS their song of the year that wasn’t a hit or “The one that got away”.
It was just called Don’t change mate. The first song they ever played, was one of their best - Don’t Change the Earth, which was only a minor hit here.
You could tell from watching just one vid, that Hutchence was going to be a superstar.

Like listening to the Swedish band Kent really. I preferred their Swedish stuff, but also owning the English translations of their albums was nice to have so I knew the lyrics.Yeah same, it was nice to know what she was singing but tone wise it's a pretty grim song!
I remember this. I was crashed out on a mates couch watching it after a heavy nights drinking. It was notorious as the show ITV interrupted late night in August 1997 the night Diana died, so ITN could bring us the breaking news story.
I missed the daytime showing, so watched the late night one, I was 12 at the time and while “Bingo” by Catch was playing, the screen blanked out and the rest is history.
Sure he sparked Liam Gallagher out once. Bands like Ride were part of the insanely average scene at that time. IMO anywaysThat Gyres song only made No.111 on the main chart, one of a very few times I actually see a song chart that low and agree with the public.
Hurricane No.1 was the band Andy Bell was in after Ride and before Oasis, before he went back to Ride.
It was a Saturday morning ITV TV show with no annoying presenters and no playback while pretending to perform live, unlike Top of The Pops. There was no presenter, just music videos and an operating system style graphic thingy that would appear during a video giving trivia and tour dates. This was later replaced in its final days with just below screen captions.
Although it will always be remembered as the ITV Chart Show, it was originally a Channel 4 show in 1984-ish, before it went to ITV in about 1987 and ended in 1998, before CD:UK took its slot and music on terrestrial TV went down the pan ever since.
The only snag was when they skipped a song you liked, they played a terrible one!???. They often played it all the way through!.
It was like this….
*Clunk-clunk-wwwwoooohhhhoooo!!!!*
“Oh love this!!…… oh darn!, they skipped it!”
*Clunk-clunk-wwwwoooohhhhoooo!!!!*
“Oh god, this tripe!!!!….” (“PLAY” comes up at the bottom of the screen)…. Oh darn!!, they had to didn’t they!?”.
That was the only drawback. It was made up for as it allowed me to discover a lot of obscure bands, and they had specialist charts alongside the main one. TOTP was just the main one, while The ITV Chart Show went further. If the song didn’t have a music video, they would put a random picture up like a log fire burning…. So very 90s!.
Sometimes I hate being 35, always being reminded of my age and what my work team will do for me when I turn 40, but when I’m reminded of TV shows like this, I feel glad I was born in a year that I was old enough to watch TV when it was quality and remember it.
A 1990 indie chart ^^, I THINK they used a different indie chart from the official one and the main chart was the Network Chart (the one that included airplay from radio stations that broadcasted said chart).
Here’s an indie chart rundown from 1997, when they did those *Clunk-clunk-wwwwoooohhhhoooo!!!!* noises between video clips. Subcircus were such an underated band.
So, does anyone remember this show and have any memories of it?. ITV 4 should be repeating this, like BBC 4 are with TOTP.
The drummer of Compulsion would later become the record producer Jackknife Lee, who produced Bloc Party and did the rock remix of Eminem’s “Cleaning Out My Closet”, that Kerrang TV would play loads once upon a time.
This chart does make me realise that it’s independent labels, so we have Senser despite being a rap group, as the indie No.1.
It was just called Don’t change mate.
They finished most gigs with it.
Weirdly not Summer XS at Wembley though.
Best band I’ve ever seen live, by an absolute country mile.
Still have this hanging up in my hall at home.

I remember that one and the Twix sponsorship bit. Near the end of its run I did lose interest, as I thought it lost its charm by getting rid of the operating system graphics, but when CD:UK took over, I realised what a great show we lost.Used to start off with a roller coaster graphic or something. Always thought it was ok until I turned 8
They seemed a really good band from the videos I’ve seen, listened to their first album on Spotify on the back of the YouTube Chart Show stuff. Is a good one too.I wandered what happened to Compulsion as oddly enough not many people remember them. They were far better live as they had a good deal of showmanship at least when I saw them.
Ahhh memories.
