What about that Thursday felling? What about that game against Fiorentina? We lost over both legs but we were quality in the second game and everything was ace. I'd rather that, get scared by Italian police with mental dogs, see a lovely town, then see some oiks from Stoke chanting about Mark Hughes.

That's how I feel - what exactly are we fighting for in the league? It's like it's 4th or 8th, we will not be getting 4th next season or any other season and we don't want 7th in case we accidentally get Europe, so why do we bother?
If Europe isn't a reward, there's no point at all. If its going to 'hold us back' there is nothing to fight for
Even if we don't win it, just making the final could be enough. For example, if Juventus are knocked out of the group stage, make the final and finish top 3 in Italy, we wouldn't even have to win the thing. A lot of the teams that end up in the finals of this competition will make the CL based on their domestic form anyway - Porto, Benfica, Bilbao, Juventus, etc.!

That's not how it works.
Care to explain?
As far as I am aware, each federation gets a certain ammount of cl places. England get 4, italy get 3, etc. If the winners of either of the Cl or the El aren't in the top 4 or 3 then whoever is 3rs or 4th drops out and they come in. So when chelsea won the cl, spurs who came 4th dropped out. If fulham win the El then arsenal will drop out, there won't be 5 english.
So there isn't is an extra place available for the El winners that will need to be filled. So the runners up won't get it if the winners have already qualified cos there isn't an extra space going begging.
Oh feck. I figured it would work similar to the FA Cup.

this can't believe some people think it's going to derail our league season, if we don't get top 4 this year we never will. no point even trying next year would rather focus on the cups.

don't agree there mate. We should always try to win the league, every season. We tried this season and it's gone titsuparse. But no way should we have an attitude going into a new season that "oh...no point in even trying to make top 4". That's small-time talk.

Let's be realistic we aren't going to have a striker as good as Lukaku next season and Man Utd and Spurs will surely be much better. I really think that this season is our best chance to make 4th and i still believe we can but if we don't next season i would be happy with a good run in europe and the other domestic cups and a 7th place finish.
Actually just looked it up and it turns out uefa are scrapping that rule. From next season it will be possible for england to have as many as 6 teams in the cl if two teams outside of the top 4 win the el and cl.
