Anthony Gordon

I'm not sure anyone except his mum would describe him as a "good lad". He comes across as very, very focussed on his own career above everything else. That probably just makes him more honest than most players, rather than different. His coaches have always talked about him as someone with incredible belief in his own abilities, and someone who was easily frustrated when he thought the players around him weren't up to his standard. Absolutely no self-doubt whatsoever.

His record last season was generally poor. Sure, his stats in Europe look good but are puffed up by goals he scored against very poor teams, and penalties.

Anyway, I reckon he'll do a decent job for Barca and maybe he'll become a bit more humble in the presence of some genuinely world-class talent, but I doubt it.

Best thing about this transfer is that the RS are annoyed - they thought he loved them, not Barca (or Real, or Bayern, or whoever else would have flattered him with an offer, and instantly become his childhood favourites).

Agree with this.

But the question id ask is... surely they have better players in their illustrious academy?

Gordon's main attributes is pace, directness, and explosiveness. But technically he's not an £80mill player, Rashford is better all round (when he's on it and I understand that wasn't enough). But in terms of on the ball or goal threat etc, I'd be surprised there's no on in the academy equal to or better than him for that outlay

Has to be said that when he signed for Newcastle, this very forum did warn the skunks that he'd be off the minute someone "bigger" showed interest.

We know a rat when we see one

Fair enough @COYBL25, I don't know the player's history and only vaguely aware of the past Merseyside tensions but I believe in player's getting a clean slate when arriving. I can recall Cancelo has been absolutely torn down everywhere and he has been a model pro throughout his loans at Barça, same for Rashford tbh

He cited Newcastle as being like a family and Barça is like this so I think he will adapt well to life in Catalunya. As I say, I didn't see it coming so was hard to be too excited about it (I don't get too worked up about fees since football has been off the rails for awhile) but I can't recall an arrival of a player that has generated so much excitement in years at Barça...and for him to arrive speaking the local language - madness

He left us in the middle of a relegation fight in January. Didn't turn up to training and was dropped for a big game while he negotiated his transfer to Newcastle after Lampard put a lot of faith in him.

Newcastle fans will say he was "hounded" out due to some fan chasing his car after a game (plenty of Barca fans have be historically volatile themselves). Which isn't the case.

He's Anthony Gordon FC and did what was best for him. He could've relegated us with that transfer but he didn't care after coming through our academy.

He also sulked before that and went knocking on Ancelloti's door asked why he wasn't getting minutes. Carlo then sent him out on loan.

Newcastle also didn't really stop him like say they did with Isak. Reason being is that they've got a couple of players who'll do the same job.

I saw a video of the player talking about his maturation both as a footballer and human being, both on & off the pitch at Newcastle - crediting them for becoming a better overall footballer & person. Happens all the time that players can become more professional else so many would’ve been written off before exploding

As I say I don’t know his past but why not someone who has turned a corner
