I think we should have sold him a week ago to give us time to replace and strengthen elsewhere.
Now? I suspect the manager will put his foot down with the player and those above and insist he stays. Time is just too tight, particularly with our crack negotiating team.
I don't see Gordon downing tools over not getting his move so he'll just crack on with things as he did yesterday.
The board? Who knows what they'll do.
For me given our position I find it unbelievable that we don’t take this deal. To the extent I was shocked he started yesterday. I assumed we would line up our replacements and then pull the trigger on the deal. We have to remember our financial position and that this would be 100% profit on the balance sheet. It would represent a huge step towards recovering our position.
Just off the top of my head you could take Gallagher on loan and Pedro from Watford (can play across the front 3). I believe over the course of the season these two could be good for 20 goals. Gordon got 4 last year. If you were feeling generous he might double that this season.
However, with him being started yesterday I don’t think he is being sold. I am beginning to wonder is he going to become a better player than many of us think he is? I mean you start to weigh up the evidence. Conte, Tuchel and Pep are all fans. Newcastle are also clearly interested. Is Frank seeing something in training that suggests he is going to develop into a top premier league player. A wide forward that can score 15-20 a season. If reports are to be believed the player wants to go and thinks he can break into the senior England team.
Anyway credit to him for the goal yesterday I thought the whole saga would be weighing heavily on him and impact his performance
