Usually the term luxury player describes players who create but don't do much else (which is dumb, you have to create to score goals and is that really a luxury if you want to win matches?)

Point is Gordon doesn't do that so he's just not that good.

Its the only answer. If we were back to where we were 5-6 years ago, generally safely mid table with no real worries about relegation, yeah you'd keep him and see if he develops. But we're in so much trouble without said 3-4 players it won't matter what happens with Gordon. One thing that is clear, he won't suddenly turn into a world beater early enough this season to keep us out of danger
